Good morning Springfield High! Today is Friday, March 27, 2015 where successful Senators follow the classroom and school wide expectations and allow for learning by all throughout the building. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Next Homeroom will be Thursday, April 9th.

SENIORS: Be mindful of the scholarship deadlines that occur during our spring break. If you need a transcript for any of them be sure to take care of that today! Mrs. Kontio will be working Monday through Thursday noon of next week should you need a transcript.

A bus trip to Illinois State University is scheduled for April 27. Those permission slips will be available after spring break.

A list of students selected for the SIU-Edwardsville trip is posted on Mrs. Povse's office door. This trip is on Thursday, April 9 when we return from break. You will receive a reminder note on Tuesday, Apr. 7 noting where and when to meet. The bus is now full. No additional permissions will be accepted.

Students of all grade levels who are interested in attending a military academy are invited with their parents to hear representatives from each of the academies speak about the nomination and admission process. The local presentation will be April 28th at 7:00 (doors open at 6:30) at the Illinois Air National Guard base, 183rd Fighter Wing at Capitol Airport. Memorial Medical Center is offering a competitive Student Volunteer Program for the summer for juniors and seniors. Two letters of recommendation, application and essay about why you want to volunteer. Deadline is April 30. Applications available in the Guidance Office.

PORTA Pool in Petersburg, IL, will sponsor the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and Certification Course April 1 through April 6. The course will prepare participants to work as trained lifeguards. Participants must be 15 years old by April 6, 2015, and must attend all class sessions. Sessions will be held on April 1, 5:30 - 9:00 p.m.; April 3, 4, and 6, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Cost of the course is $210.00, due at time of registration. Recertification of currently certified lifeguards will be held simultaneously with this course for a cost of $150.00. Students - Please make sure all absences are cleared within 48 hours of your last absence either by having parents call or providing notes from doctors for absences. Students you can log into the cumulative folder to check for any attendance discrepancies. This is just a reminder as we approach the end of the year and final exam exemptions.

Tryouts for the 2015-2016 SHS Cheerleading squads are approaching next month. Tryout packets can be picked up in the main office or from Coach Lauer and they can be downloaded from the SHS Cheerleading webpage. Anyone interested in trying out must attend the mandatory tryout meeting Tuesday, April 6th at 5:30pm in the SHS Commons. This is an informational meeting for parents and candidates that will provide all the details of the 2015-2016 season and team rules & expectations. Any questions please contact Coach Lauer.

Hey, Senators! The 3rd quarter Be A Senator acknowledgement will be held today during both lunch shifts. The criteria for inclusion was no detentions or discipline referrals and fewer than 3 excused absences (no unexcused absences) for 3rd quarter. Those students who qualified will get a slushie and nachos with cheese at lunch on Friday. Lists with the names of all of those eligible were emailed to teachers and are placed outside the guidance office, main office, attendance office, and commons. Keep your eyes open for Out of the Blue surprises coming to a classroom near you! An announcement for the 4th quarter acknowledgement will be made after Spring Break. Remember, get to class on time, act like a Senator at all times, and if you are absent, have a parent or guardian call in. As always, thank you for Being A Senator!

Attention! For those choir students participating in the All City Music Festival, you have a rehearsal today from 9:30-12:00 in the SHS auditorium. Please report to the auditorium after 1st hour ends.

The application deadline for the 2015-16 Student Board of Education member has been extended to April 8. Applications are due in the Board of Education Office, 1900 W. Monroe by 4:30 p.m. Application packets can be found in the guidance office or on the Board of Education's area of the District homepage.
