SCHOLARSHIP NEWS: Deadline for Leroy and Rachel Cantral teacher's scholarship extended to April 30; Urban League scholarship, May 8; Zeta Phi Beta, June 30; Lincolnland Illini and ATO for students going to UIUC, May 23, June 26; Alpha Kappa Alpha, May 1.
SENIORS: It is time to get your scholarship information to Mrs. Povse. The class of 2015 has a long way to go to top last year's scholarship offers. Write down the offers from each school and the dollar amount and put in Mrs. Povse's mailbox on her door. Thanks to all who have already notified her.
Permission slips for the college bus trip to Illinois State University on April 27th are now available outside Mrs. Povse's door or in Guidance. These slips are due tomorrow, April 21.
Students of all grade levels who are interested in attending a military academy are invited with their parents to hear representatives from each of the academies speak about the nomination and admission process. The local presentation will be April 28th at 7:00 (doors open at 6:30) at the Illinois Air National Guard base, 183rd Fighter Wing at Capitol Airport. Memorial Medical Center is offering a competitive Student Volunteer Program for the summer for juniors and seniors. Two letters of recommendation, application and essay about why you want to volunteer. Deadline is April 30. Applications available in the Guidance Office.
Students - Please make sure all absences are cleared within 48 hours of your last absence either by having parents call or providing notes from doctors for absences. Students you can log into the cumulative folder to check for any attendance discrepancies. This is just a reminder as we approach the end of the year and final exam exemptions. The final exam schedule and the exam exemption policy are posted on the SHS website.
Any junior interested in participating in the work program next year needs to see Mrs. Devlin to get necessary paperwork and discuss job opportunities. Mrs. Devlin is in room 110 before school or room 121 during lunch shifts.
The 2015 Capitoline Yearbooks will be here in May. If you have not already done so, order yours now through Mrs. Eslahi yearbook adviser. The cost is $70, or you may pay 1/2 down now and the remainder when the books arrive.
ATTENTION Juniors & Seniors: There is Building & Trades Career Day Field Trip on Wed, April 29, 2015. If you are interested, please sign-up in the Guidance Office, get a permission slip, & return it to the Guidance Office by Wednesday, Apr 22. Only the first 40 students with permission slips turned in will be allowed to attend. See Mr. Williams for questions.
The BE A SENATOR 4TH QUARTER ACKNOWLEDGEMENT will be held the week before Finals. The criteria is: no referrals, no unexcused absences, and no tardies.
If you have not picked up your SMTD bus tickets please come to room 169 before school, at lunch or after school.
Attention anyone bring a date to prom from another school! There are guest permission slips in the main office and on our school website. Forms must be signed by the principal or administrator of the guest's school. Guests may not be older than 19. Forms must be handed to the ticket taker the day of prom along with a photo id.
Prom tickets will be on sale all week during both lunch shifts in the commons. Tickets are $25 for a single, $35 for a couple. There will only be single tickets available at the door and they will cost $30. Grussenmyers Photography will be taking pictures at prom. Picture packages range form $20-$40.
Attention Juniors and Seniors: You are cordially invited to attend AfterProm from 11:30-3:00am.this Saturday. Food will be served throughout the entire event. There will be a nacho bar, pizza, and a sundae bar. Also, there will be slushies and other goodies. Come to school and ride the giant trikes, play on the huge blow ups, watch the hypnotist, and get your picture taken in the photo booth. Register to win great door prizes and 1 of the fantastic grand prizes. Come out and enjoy this fun and safe event. You do not have to attend Prom to come to After-Prom. Hope to see you there.
Freshmen: Please turn in your permit receipt to Ms. Dvorak if you went to the DMV on your own to get your permit. You will not be able to take behind the wheel until you do this.
Junior NHS students interested in running for an officer position need to turn in Officer Acknowledgement forms before Thursday to either Mrs. Taft or Mr. Kramer.
All Junior NHS students: our next meeting is Thursday after school in the library promptly at 3:25. We will be voting for officer positions. If you are unable to attend, please see Mrs. Taft BEFORE Thursday.
The Lady Senators Track and Field team finished 7th at the Lady Purple Raiders Invitational in Bloomington Friday night. Finishing in first place was Aly Goff in the 800 (2:18.78). The 4x400 relay team of Kyra Webster, Aly Goff, Carrie Rolf, and Reilly Stiver finished 3rd (5:05.54). Finishing in 4th was the 4x200 team of Chieme Udaku, Machaela Pattie, Reilly Stiver, and Ingrid Samuels (1:44.72), and the 4x100 team of Michaela Pattie, Reilly Stiver, Kyra Webster, Ozzy Erewele (48.9), and Kyra Webster in the triple jump (32'10).
The SHS Boys Varsity track and field team placed 8th overall out of 17 teams at the Capital City Classic hosted by Lanphier High School on Saturday. Top placers for SHS were: Michael Neposchlan 4th in the 3200, the 4x100 relay team of Wendel Burnes, Kamari Rowl, Nnamdi Onyewuchi and Alex DeLeon placed 4th, the 4x400 relay team of Nnamdi Onyewuchi, NIck Sepanski, Jarrett Gary, and Heath Warren placed 6th, the 4x800 relay team of Jarrett Gary, JD Kropid, Jack Moore, and Nick Sepanski placed 2nd, Taivon Kincaid placed 5th in the high jump, and Heath Warren brought home 1st place in the 800 running a new school record. Heath's time also ranks him as the 24th fastest junior in the country in the 800. Great job to all the boys who competed Saturday!

Tip placers for SHS were: the 4x100 relay team of Kane Lockwood, Anthony Nwajei, Dee Kalala, and Carlos Scurlock placed 1st, the 4x200 relay team of Kane Lockwood, Dee Kalala, Anthony Nwajei and Dmarse' Morgan placed 6th, the 4x400 relay team of Joseph Ratsch, Anthony Nwajei, Tyler Sheckleton, and Joseph Abe-Bell placed 4th, and Reed Carlson placed 5th in the triple jump! Great job to the Fresh/Soph boys track and field team!
Congratulations to the IN Session showchoir! They placed 2nd runner-up in their division, and made finals at Midwest Nationals, where they placed 3rd runner-up overall. Special shout out to Emma Bachman for receiving Best Performer in a show. And a special shout out to Emma Bachman, Taylor Akers, Jake Woodard, and Dugan Hollinshead for receiving an $8,000 ($2000 per year) scholarship to McKendree University. What a heck of a way to end the Showchoir season. Please join us we say goodbye to our senior class and perform our Nationally award winning showchoir show on Tuesday, May 12th at the Spring choral concert.
