SCHOLARSHIP NEWS: Deadline for Leroy and Rachel Cantral teacher's scholarship extended to April 30; Urban League scholarship, May 8; Zeta Phi Beta, June 30; Lincolnland Illini and ATO for students going to UIUC, May 23, June 26; Alpha Kappa Alpha, May 1.
SENIORS: At the end of the day yesterday you have reported 3 million 600 thousand dollars in scholarship offers. Keep them coming! This class is only 7 million behind last year's class!!!!!!! Get your offers to Mrs. Povse.
Memorial Medical Center is offering a competitive Student Volunteer Program for the summer for juniors and seniors. Two letters of recommendation, application and essay about why you want to volunteer. Deadline is April 30. Applications available in the Guidance Office.
Students - Please make sure all absences are cleared within 48 hours of your last absence either by having parents call or providing notes from doctors for absences. Students you can log into the cumulative folder to check for any attendance discrepancies. This is just a reminder as we approach the end of the year and final exam exemptions. The final exam schedule and the exam exemption policy are posted on the SHS website.
Any junior interested in participating in the work program next year needs to see Mrs. Devlin to get necessary paperwork and discuss job opportunities. Mrs. Devlin is in room 110 before school or room 121 during lunch shifts.
The 2015 Capitoline Yearbooks will be here in May. If you have not already done so, order yours now through Mrs. Eslahi yearbook adviser. The cost is $70, or you may pay 1/2 down now and the remainder when the books arrive.
ATTENTION Juniors & Seniors: There is Building & Trades Career Day Field Trip on Wed, April 29, 2015. If you are interested, please sign-up in the Guidance Office, get a permission slip, & return it to the Guidance Office by Wednesday, Apr 22. Only the first 40 students with permission slips turned in will be allowed to attend. See Mr. Williams for questions.
The BE A SENATOR 4TH QUARTER ACKNOWLEDGEMENT will be held the week before Finals. The criteria is: no referrals, no unexcused absences, and no tardies.
If you have not picked up your SMTD bus tickets please come to room 169 before school, at lunch or after school.
Attention anyone bring a date to prom from another school! There are guest permission slips in the main office and on our school website. Forms must be signed by the principal or administrator of the guest's school. Guests may not be older than 19. Forms must be handed to the ticket taker the day of prom along with a photo id.
Prom tickets will be on sale all week during both lunch shifts in the commons. Tickets are $25 for a single, $35 for a couple. There will only be single tickets available at the door and they will cost $30. Grussenmyers Photography will be taking pictures at prom. Picture packages range form $20-$40.
Attention Juniors and Seniors, Just a few short days until After Prom. Make plans to attend this fun event after the dance on Saturday. There will be a hypnotist, lots of great food, many activities and plenty of great prizes. Come early and stay late. We'll be giving away the 3 grand prizes at 2:30 am!!! You must be present to win. See you soon. You do not have to attend Prom to come to After-Prom.
Freshmen: Please turn in your permit receipt to Ms. Dvorak if you went to the DMV on your own to get your permit. You will not be able to take behind the wheel until you do this.
All Junior NHS students: our next meeting is Today after school in the library promptly at 3:25. We will be
voting for officer positions.
Making the Grade for selected Freshmen will be Today from 1 - 3 in the commons.
Friday night, May 15th, The Susan G Komen Race for the Cure will have a route that will walk around three fourths of the school campus and football field. The cheerleaders volunteered last year and decorated the streets with chalk and cheered on the participants. This year we are looking for more groups to join the effort and showcase our school spirit and enthusiasm. Mrs. Lauer and Mrs. Dearing are helping. Please talk or email them with ideas and names of volunteers.
Attention students who ordered class rings from Jostens: The rings will be delivered on April 30th. The Jostens reps will be here before school on that day and will be at both lunch shifts. Bring your final payments to pick up your rings.
The Lady Senator softball team got another conference win against Eisenhower last night. Annabelle Hope led the way with a second consecutive win on the mound and 4 hits. Seniors Hailey Buhnerkemper and Alyssa Ervin came up huge with multiple hits and RBI's a piece.
