Good morning Springfield High! Today is Tuesday, April 28, 2015 where successful Senators follow the classroom and school wide expectations and allow for learning by all throughout the building. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Today Mrs. Valentine's second hour class and Mrs. A Armstrong's third hour class will test in the commons this morning periods 1-3. Ms. Negele's 5,6,7 hour classes will take the PARCC test in the commons periods 5-7.

Wednesday morning students in Mrs. Slater's first hour class and Mr. Reed's first and second hour classes will take the PARCC test in the commons periods 1-2 hour.

Wednesday afternoon students in Mr. Adkins' fourth hour class and Mrs. Goff's sixth and seventh hour classes will take the PARCC test in the commons periods 6-7 hour.

SCHOLARSHIP NEWS: Deadline for Leroy and Rachel Cantral teacher's scholarship extended to April 30; Urban League scholarship, May 8; Zeta Phi Beta, June 30; Lincolnland Illini and ATO for students going to UIUC, May 23, June 26; Alpha Kappa Alpha, May 1.

SENIORS: At the end of the day yesterday you have reported $5,787,890 in scholarship offers. Keep them coming! This class is only $5.3 million behind last year's class!!!!!!! Get your offers to Mrs. Povse.

The University of Spa & Cosmetology Arts will be holding an Open House on June 3 from 5:00-7:00p.m. at 2913 West White Oaks Drive. Come and learn about cosmetology, classic barbering, massage therapy, nail technology and esthiology.

JUNIORS: Sign up with College Week Live, High School Connect and be able to take virtual tours of colleges, find admissions information, pricing, and more. This could save you time and money in your college search.

SENIORS: If you are planning to attend LLCC next year remember to get out there and take your placement test, meet with an academic advisior and register for your classes. The sooner you do this, the better your schedule will be. You can get a College Day Pass in Guidance to do this.

Memorial Medical Center is offering a competitive Student Volunteer Program for the summer for juniors and seniors. Two letters of recommendation, application and essay about why you want to volunteer. Deadline is April 30. Applications available in the Guidance Office.

Students - Please make sure all absences are cleared within 48 hours of your last absence either by having parents call or providing notes from doctors for absences. Students you can log into the cumulative folder to check for any attendance discrepancies. This is just a reminder as we approach the end of the year and final exam exemptions. The final exam schedule and the exam exemption policy are posted on the SHS website.

Any junior interested in participating in the work program next year needs to see Mrs. Devlin to get necessary paperwork and discuss job opportunities. Mrs. Devlin is in room 110 before school or room 121 during lunch shifts.

The 2015 Capitoline Yearbooks will be here in May. If you have not already done so, order yours now through Mrs. Eslahi yearbook adviser. The cost is $70, or you may pay 1/2 down now and the remainder when the books arrive.

The BE A SENATOR 4TH QUARTER ACKNOWLEDGEMENT will be held the week before Finals. The criteria is: no referrals, no unexcused absences, and no tardies.

Freshmen: Please turn in your permit receipt to Ms. Dvorak if you went to the DMV on your own to get your permit. You will not be able to take behind the wheel until you do this.

Attention students who ordered class rings from Jostens: The rings will be delivered Thursday. The Jostens reps will be here before school on that day and will be at both lunch shifts. Bring your final payments to pick up your rings.

They’re back………….BRRRRRRR……….once again, the class of 2018 will be selling delicious ice cream sundaes for $2 on Thursday. Enjoy a chocolate or vanilla sundae complete with toppings! Get yours while supplies last.

Wanted - Groups and individuals to decorate and cheer the Susan G Komen participants on as they pass by SHS, the school and football field, on Friday night May15th. Volunteers will meet at school and decorate, cheer and encourage the runners and walkers during the race. A meeting will be this Thursday, April 30 after school in Mrs Dearing's room 222.

If anyone left a pair of silver shoes at prom, please see Ms. Greco in the guidance office.

Attention German Club and Spanish Club! If you would like to play bowling on Friday, May 8 please see Herrn Koeppel or Senor Reichert respectively and sign up with a $5 deposit after school from today until Wednesday, April 29. Be quick to save your spot.

Hey all you guys & gals! Make plans to tune in and watch Hairspray the Musical this weekend! The music and dancing starts this Friday, May 1st with curtain at 7:30pm. Saturday’s show also starts at 7:30 and Sunday’s matinee begins at 2:00. Get your tickets in advance right here in the main office. Student tickets are just $5.00. Adult tickets only $8.00. You can’t stop the beat!

We’re broadcasting LIVE this morning from tv station WZZT to remind YOU to be sure and come out and see Hairspray the Musical this weekend right here at Springfield High School in the lovely Schnirring Auditorium. Get your tickets in the main office; don’t be one of THOSE people who waits to buy them at the door (although, we WILL have tickets to sell before each performance). Friday & Saturday’s show times are 7:30pm. Sunday afternoon’s show starts at 2:00. You can’t stop the beat!

There will be showchoir rehearsal tonight from 6-8pm in the choir room. Any showchoir member not involve with the musical, should be at showchoir rehearsal.
