Good morning Springfield High! Today is Monday, September 21, 2015 where successful Senators follow the classroom and school wide expectations and allow for learning all throughout the building. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Fall play “A streetcar named Desire”. The cast list is posted on the trophy case outside the Auditorium. The parent meeting will be Tonight, September 21st @ 6:30pm in the auditorium.

Attention all SHS students: All of you now have a chance to be the Springfield mascot, the Solon, as tryouts will be coming up soon. A date will be decided and announced next week. Please contact Ms. Troike or Mr. Kramer in rooms 258 and 326 for questions.

SHS students and staff, United Way is an organization that raises money around the world for over 200 local programs such as Boys and Girls Club, Helping Hands and Cerebral Palsy. We have challenged Southeast to see who can show the most unity and raise the most money by selling Live United 186 t-shirts for $10. All profits go to the United Way. Get an order form in the Main office. We will wear red shirts to games against Southeast and they will wear blue ones.
Please help and support and buy a shirt!!

Have you ever wanted to throw a pie in the face of one of our beloved administrators like Principal Grossen, Mr. Williams, or Officer Rummins? Well now is your chance! The SHS Me to We club will be selling raffle tickets to throw a pie in an administrators' face during the homecoming pep assembly. Tickets will be sold in the commons during both lunch shifts and during the home football games. All proceeds will go to our future school in Ghana. Any questions please contact Grace Thompson.

LAST call for Juniors to sign up for the PSAT! The cost is $18-bring check made out to SHS to guidance. The test is on Oct. 14-during the school day.

The first meeting of the YEP club is October 6 from 3:45-5:00 at Peerless Cleaners on South Grand Ave. YEP stands for "young entrepreneurial professionals” and is open to all high school students in Sangamon County who are interested in learning more about entrepreneurship. Information sheets are available in the guidance office.

Seniors, If you want your baby picture in this year’s yearbook, bring the picture and $10 to Mrs. Eslahi in room 254. Thank you.

Tutoring is available is now available on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 7:45 to 8:15 am before school in Mr. Reed’s class, Room 228; and from 3:30-4:30 pm in the cafeteria. Please make sure to sign-in upon arrival

Making the Grade is Thursday, September 24 from 1-3pm in the Commons. Participating students will receive a pass to attend.

The SHS Cheerleaders will be hosting a fundraiser this evening at Cherry Berry between 4:00-8:00pm. Up to 20% of sales will be donated back to the team. Please come out and support your SHS cheerleaders. Thank you!

Seniors: If you are planning to graduate at the end of 1st semester, you must have a parent call Mr. Williams to arrange a meeting to sign an Early Graduation Contract. If you need extra credits to make up for failed classes, get a pass to see Mr. Williams about attending Lawrence Education Center Credit Recovery Classes.

The following colleges will be visiting SHS: On Tuesday, Blackburn College at 9:00, Eureka College at 10:20 and Illinois Wesleyan University at 1:45. Illinois College will be here on Wednesday at 8:30. PLEASE SEE MR. KYES FOR A PASS TO LISTEN TO THE COLLEGE REPS.

Achtung German Club! We will be showing the German movie "Run Lola Run" right after school this Tuesday, September 22 in room 250. Please turn in the permission form that can be found on the calendar on the German Club website to Herr Koeppel prior to the movie. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Hope to see you there.

The Cross Country team competed in the Peoria Notre Dame Invite on Saturday. The girls Freshmen team finished 28 out of 39 teams. Ruth Edwards was the top placer for SHS. The girls Varsity team finished 29 out of 62. Aly Goff was the top placer for SHS. In the boys JV race Jarrett Gary was the top placer for SHS. The boys freshment team finished 30 out of 44 teams. Barrett Kurmann was the top placer for SHS. And the Varsity boys team finished 16th out of 63 teams. Heath Warren was the top placer for SHS.

Attention students: Voting for Homecoming Court will be this week. This year Freshmen and Sophomore will be able to vote 1 couple each. Freshmen and Sophomores will vote Thursday, September 24th. Seniors and Juniors will vote Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. All voting will take place in the Commons on the far wall during both lunch shifts.

The Boys Varsity soccer team finished second at the Rockton Indian Cup. The Senators won 3 games before falling 2-1 in the Championship. Nate Cheung and Kelby Phillips were named All-Tournament. The Freshman team won all 3 games to win the Genwood freshman invite. The soccer teams have a game tonight at Lee Field @ 5 pm JV followed by Varsity.
HEY SENATORS, LISTEN UP! All orders for the SHS Spirit Jerseys being sold by the class of 2018 must be turned in by the end of this week. (September 25). Please give payments to Ms. Kontio in guidance, Ms. Davis is Room 363 or any class officer. See samples of the must have spirit wear in the glass case outside the auditorium. These items are for the entire student body and staff. Order forms can be found in the guidance office or main office. Remember, payment is due by the end of the week.

Due to the postponement of the conclusion of the varsity football game on Friday night, the freshman only game scheduled for 4:30 today has been changed. It will now be a 6:00 combined freshman and sophomore game. Players will not need to leave class early. All players need to get dressed after school and report to Washington Street for a walkthrough before departing on the bus at 4.
