Good morning Springfield High! Today is Wednesday, January 20, 2016 where successful Senators follow the classroom and school wide expectations and allow for learning all throughout the building. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Today is an early dismissal day!

Please allow students to enter your classroom this am for the first ten minutes without passes (maybe longer /will advise). Please DO NOT take your Attendance until the last 10 minutes of 1st hr.

Students “ If you have not paid your first semester lab fees please do so IMMEDIATELY! Bring payments to Ms. Floyd in the main office.

Buy your city tournament tickets on both lunch shifts today and tomorrow in the commons. Tickets are $5 each.

Student that ordered city tournament t-shirts may pick them up during both lunch shifts in the commons.

Attention actors and actresses: The Legacy Theatre will be presenting an evening of one-act plays. If you are interested in auditioning, please see Ms. Greco in guidance today.

Students that did NOT pick up their new schedules, you can pick them up in the Guidance office.

Are you interested in learning about career possibilities in the plant, animal, and veterinary sciences? AgDIscovery is a hosting a four-week summer program at the University of Illinois at Urbana. More information is available in the guidance office.

Attention 10th graders: Any Sophomore interested in attending the HOBY-Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Seminar, please sign up in the guidance office 104. Go to the website www. hoby.org for more information. Please submit a 1 page summary of why you would be the best choice to represent Springfield High at the 2016 Summer conference and turn this in when you sign up in guidance. 1/26/16 will be the last day to sign up and turn in papers.

Attention Seniors- There are several scholarships now available! Please see Mr. Kyes for more scholarship information in room 153A.

Valentine Flower sales will be starting next week. They will be sold in the commons before school and during lunch shifts. Cost is $1.00. They will be delivered to students during 3rd hour on Friday, February 12. Show that someone special you care “ order soon because we always sell out.

Blood Drive ANNOUNCEMENT FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tue., Jan 26, from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch-in the Commons, before school or after school-in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Monday, Jan 25. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Blood donations SAVE LIVES! Any questions-please see Mr. Williams.

Attention all athletes interested in participating in boys track and field. If you are not in a winter sport, there will be a mandatory meeting Thursday after school in the commons. The meeting will only last about 5 minutes. The official season begins on January 25th! Please make sure you have an updated physical and a permit card on file in the main office and have paid your athletic fees paid. See coach Cotner with any questions.

The Public Information Sessions for Springfield Area high school students interested in applying for the Sister Cities Association of Springfield (SCAS) student exchange in Ashikaga, Japan will be held on Monday, January 25 and Monday, February 8. Each session will be at 7:00 PM in the Board Room of the Springfield District 186 Administrative Center, 1900 West Monroe Street, Springfield, IL 62704 (next to Grant Middle School, across from Fairhills Mall).
Interested students and their parents are encouraged to attend one of the sessions, if possible. Applications for the June 17-27, 2016 delegation will be available at the sessions.
Applications are open to all Springfield-area high school students (current 8th graders thru current high school seniors). February 29, 2016 is the application deadline.
Springfield has been a Sister City to Ashikaga, Japan since 1990 and has been sponsoring student exchanges for 25 years. The 11-day exchange is a total immersion experience, including living with a Japanese family and attending school.
