Good morning Springfield High! Today is Tuesday, February 16, 2016 where successful Senators follow the classroom and school wide expectations and allow for learning all throughout the building. Thank you for Being A Senator!

Applications are now being accepted for the 2016-2017 Student School Board Member for the Springfield Public Schools Board of Education. Rising seniors interested in the position can obtain an application in their school's guidance office or by visiting the Board of Education's page of the District website. Applications are due to Mr. Grossen by Tuesday, March 8.

Attention class of 2018! Josten’s will be here WEDNESDAY, February 17th for your class rings. The following week the will be here on Tuesday the 23rd at lunch and on Wednesday the 24th from 7:30-12:30 in the commons to take orders. Check out the Guidance webpage for a picture of one of the great styles available. Don’t miss this opportunity!!!

Freshmen Students & Parents: There will be a Freshmen Course Planning Session Today, Feb. 16, 5:30-6:30pm, in the SHS Commons. Please bring a pen or pencil to use as we discuss & plan your classes for the next 3 years. Contact Mr. Williams for any questions.

The Spring college field trip for JUNIORS and SENIORS will be WEDNESDAY MARCH 2 to Illinois State University AND Lincoln College. Please see Mr. Kyes for the permission slip. The first 40 students to return a permission slip will be allowed to attend.

SENIORS who are planning on attending Lincoln Land Community College in the Fall, please see Mr. Kyes for a field trip opportunity to LLCC on THURSDAY MARCH 3. We are limited to only 40 students. Please see Mr. Kyes in the college room- room 153A

Attention ALL SOPHOMORES- There is a career field trip to Lincoln Land Community College on THURSDAY MARCH 10. The first 80 sophomore students to return a permission slip will be allowed to attend. Please see Mr. Kyes in the college room for the permission slip.

Solons -February is “National Heart Month” so let’s support the American Heart Association in fighting heart disease and stroke. On Feb. 19th, the Boys basketball team take on Jacksonville High School in the American Heart Association’s “RED OUT” game of the week. Purchase an American Heart shirt for $10, and get in the game FREE. Shirts will be on sale in the Commons this week…during both lunch shifts.

Student Council will be having open elections for the senior class on Thursday, February 18th. There is one spot open and election packets MUST be picked up by this Thursday, February 11th in Ms. Troike's room - room number 258.

Attention students who took AP Government first semester…. PLEASE return your textbooks to Mr. Myers as soon as possible!! Thanks

Shout out to the SHS wrestlers! Congratulations to the 4 State qualifiers, Jazquez Stewart, Terrion Taborn, Peyton West and Dalton (the Gerbil) Kinison a 3 time state qualifier. Wrestlers will compete in Champaign starting on Thursday.

Congratulations to The Speech & Acting Team as they competed at IHSA Sectionals at Belleville West on Saturday. Senior Anna Flinn competed in Impromptu Speaking and Original Oratory; Senior Rebecca Hassebrock competed in Dramatic Duet Acting and Radio Speaking; Junior Jacob Robinson competed in Oratorical Declamation; Sophomore Tom Duerr competed in Dramatic Duet Acting with Rebecca Hassebrock; Freshman Kiki Frost competed in Dramatic Interpretation; and Freshman Charlie Yockey competed in Extemporaneous Speaking. Charlie Yockey made it to the final round and placed 6th in Extemp. Speaking. Congratulations to the entire team on a great season. There is a short team meeting for the entire team right after school today in Ms. Negele’s room.
