Juniors interested in a career in science or medicine: The American Cancer Society is offering an eight week paid research internship in a cancer lab. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA, 2 letters of recommendation and write an essay. Pick up application in Guidance. Deadline is March 22.
Illinois College in Jacksonville is sponsoring a college fair this evening from 6:30-8:00 at the Bruner Fitness and Recreation Center. Over 50 colleges and universities will be present. A 30 minute financial aid presentation will begin at 7:00. Pick up a reminder card in Guidance.
The Department of Community Resources or slice has a scholarship for Seniors in financial need. See Mr. Lawson.
Students interested in a career in professional nursing: Memorial Medical Center and MacMurray College are sponsoring the Teens Experiencing Nursing Summer Camp, July 19-22. 30 participants will be selected from the Springfield area. Applications and brochures are available from Mrs. Povse in the Guidance Office. Deadline is Friday, April 9.
Seniors: A $1000 4 year renewable scholarship for students planning to pursue a degree in construction, engineering or architecture. Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4pt. scale, demonstrate financial need, show leadership qualities. Apply at firstname.lastname@example.org Deadline is March 15.
Robert Morris University is sponsoring an Art Portfolio Contest to qualify for an art scholarship up to $5000. March 6 at 11a.m. at RMU , 3101 Montvale Dr. Bring 5 to 10 pieces, marked slides, or digital CD. RSVP at 793-2500.
The McCourtney Foundation Scholarship is now available from Mr. Lawson. This scholarship awards $5,000 and $3,000 to those students majoring in a technical or scientific field and $1,000 to other students. All scholarships are renewable.
The Read for a Lifetime Luncheon is scheduled for March 18. In order to be eligible to attend the luncheon participants must return a form to Mrs. Dahmane by tomorrow. If you did not receive a form from your English teacher see Mrs. Dahmane right away.
Do you like acting or speaking in public? Do like to be in the spotlight? Well, we may have just the thing for you. Springfield High School is looking for students interested in joining a Speech Team. Speech categories involve anything and everything from dramatic interpretation, original comedy, impromptu speaking, informative speaking, radio broadcasting, and so much more! Please sign-up on the sheet located in the main office. Sponsors of the Speech Team will be available to speak with you at Activities Night on March 11th and will be holding an informational meeting directly after school on March 23 in Room 362. Pizza and drinks will be provided, so if you want to know more, grab a friend and join us!

There will be a short wrestling meeting today after school. The meeting will cover the times of the banquet. The meeting will be in room 266. Please turn in all equipment at this time.
There will be an assembly this afternoon at 2:40 PM to celebrate the Girls Basketball Team 3rd place State Finish! Teachers – please keep the students in class until dismissed by the PA. Only students that WANT to attend the assembly should come.
The boys track and field team placed 4th at the Illinois College indoor invite on Saturday. Top finishers for SHS were: Jordan Collins, 2nd in the 55, Titus Hughes 2nd in the high jump, Patrick McHatton 3rd in the 800, the 4x4 team of McHatton, Michael Simon, Adam Bellfellah, and Justin Lee finished 3rd, and the 4x8 team of Michael Simon, David Thomas, Nick Moore, and Justin Lee finished 1st. Jordan Collins, Titus Highes, and the 4x8 relay team all hit automatic qualifying marks for indoor state as well.
The Lady Senators track team won the 16 team Illinois College Indoor Invitational Saturday. Qualifying for the Prep Top Times Indoor Classic to be held at Illinois Wesleyan University on March 27 was the 4 x 800 relay of Maddie Alexander, Christy Rolf, Maggie Cornelius, and Kirby Hale. Laurel Neposchlan with her 1st place finish in the pole vault with a new school record 5’9”. The 4 x 400 relay of Kirby Hale, Christina Kropid, Miriam Agamah, and Sarah Maxson also had a 1st place finish. Outstanding team effort ladies.
