SENIORS: Please pay attention to the FAFSA preferred filing date at the school you intend to attend. Many state schools have March 1 as the preferred filing date. Check your school's website if you are unsure.

Juniors interested in a career in science or medicine: The American Cancer Society is offering an eight week paid research internship in a cancer lab. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA, 2 letters of recommendation and write an essay. Pick up application in Guidance. Deadline is March 22.
Illinois College in Jacksonville is sponsoring a college fair Monday evening March 8 from 6:30-8:00 at the Bruner Fitness and Recreation Center. Over 50 colleges and universities will be present. A 30 minute financial aid presentation will begin at 7:00. Pick up a reminder card in Guidance.
This year's African American History Month's theme is 'Celebrating Gwendolyn Brooks: An Illinois Original.' Poster Contest and Essay Contest ads are in the hallways. Wednesdays and Fridays of this month, participate in the African American History Trivia Contest. March 5, join us in the auditorium for our annual celebration
Attention seniors who are children of veterans: the University of Illinois is offering a tuition waiver scholarship to the natural or legally adopted children of veterans. If you have been accepted to the U of I (any campus) and are the child of a veteran see Mr. Lawson or Mrs. Povse today or tomorrow. The application deadline is Monday, March 1.

Today, the 21st Century Program will host a day of service. Please join our supply drive for the homeless! We are collecting various essentials such as toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, socks, and washcloths to make kits to be given out at a local shelter. You can place your donated items in the boxes provided by the Guidance Office and in the Commons. If you would like to help us sort and put together kits on that day, please contact Ms. Johnson in the 21st Century Program in 160 after school.
Students interested in a career in professional nursing: Memorial Medical Center and MacMurray College are sponsoring the Teens Experiencing Nursing Summer Camp, July 19-22. 30 participants will be selected from the Springfield area. Applications and brochures are available from Mrs. Povse in the Guidance Office. Deadline is Friday, April 9.
10th graders - Please stop by the Guidance office if you would like a permission form to attend the Career Day field trip in March. Forms must be completed and returned by today. The trip is limited to the first 60 students.
STRIKE OUT THE WINTER BLUES!! Get a team of friends or family to join us for an evening of fun and socializing. GAPP (German American Partnership Program) is hosting a bowling fundraiser at Strike n Spare West on Lawrence Ave. Sunday, February 28, between 8:30 pm - 11:00 pm. Registration begins at 8:30 pm, unlimited bowling 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm. Cost is only $15. What a deal! Covers shoe rental and two hours of unlimited bowling. Put a team together and come dressed in costume. Your team could be awarded the prize for having the best costumes. More prizes given out through the evening. Avoid the lines that night and Pre-Register. Get your pre-registration form off Herr Koeppel's SHS webpage. Complete the form and return along with your money in an envelope to Herr Koeppel, Room 250, by Thursday, February 25. If not, just come that night to sign up. Attention Springfield High! The Student Council is organized a money drive for Haiti all this week. The 7th hour class that brings in the most money will win a pizza party from Pizza Hut! Please help those in need!
Attention Students - the 2nd annual Be A Senator T-shirt contest will be held through
Friday. All students will have the opportunity to vote in both the commons and cafeteria. You may vote for your favorite by putting a quarter in the jar. Like the old adage says - vote early & vote often! (In other words, you may vote as often as you would like - as long as you have a quarter each time!)
The winner of the t-shirt contest will win $50 and a free t-shirt. Results will be announced on Tuesday, March 2nd..
King & Queen of Hearts! Start collecting donations all week long to get your class ahead of the others. There will be an important meeting regarding fundraising at the Lincoln-SHS game in room 522 tomorrow.
There will be an important Rally Against Childhood Cancer meeting tomorrow. We need volunteers to stay approximately 30 – 45 minutes to help with posters and go over many things.

The Class of 2011 is selling Burger King Double Cheeseburgers for $1.50 in the commons today. More burgers will be ordered this time, but they sell fast so get there early! First come first served! .
There will be a short meeting for all girls planning on trying out for softball Thursday, right after school, in room 330.
Attention Varsity Baseball Players: There will be a short meeting Friday after school in room 320 for juniors and seniors that are planning to try out for baseball. See Coach if you cannot attend as practice starts Monday.
Students who were going to participate in the organ donation survey and pizza lunch with Ms. Dvorak today has been cancelled. Please remain in class.
Students attending the Scholastic Art workshop with Ms. Huffman remember to bring $5 and meet tomorrow by the main office at 8:25 AM.
