SENIORS: Please pay attention to the FAFSA preferred filing date at the school you intend to attend. Many state schools have March 1 as the preferred filing date. Check your school's website if you are unsure.

The Helen & June Hamilton teachers scholarship fund which provides loans.
The William E McElroy scholarship for males interested in medical research, especially in the fields of heart disease & cancer.
If you are interested in being on next year’s yearbook staff you must complete an application. You can get an application from your guidance dean, in the guidance office or in the main office. Applications are due no later than February 19.
Are you looking for part time summer employment and enjoy baseball? Kids First Youth Organization is looking for UMPIRES. Students must be 16-18 years old. Pay is $20 for base umpires and $30 for home plate umpires. Must have knowledge of baseball. See Mrs. Devlin in room 112 before school for an application.
This year's African American History Month's theme is 'Celebrating Gwendolyn Brooks: An Illinois Original.' Poster Contest and Essay Contest ads are in the hallways. Wednesdays and Fridays of this month, participate in the African American History Trivia Contest. March 5, join us in the auditorium for our annual celebration

Want to join 21st Century? Make sure you've got the proper credentials! Enrollment forms can be obtained from the Guidance office as well as in room 160 after school. If you or your parents have questions, please contact Ms. Johnson, Site Coordinator. Please be prepared with your paperwork and your student ID on your first day. No Student will be admitted to the program without those very important things. Thank you for your cooperation!
Love Hip Hop? Love yourself? Come to the BASUAH Health Summit and Hip Hop Symposium on Saturday, February 20 at UIS. Please see a poster around school for registration information. Admission is free but you will definitely walk away with a wealth of knowledge! Questions? Ask any YWB/BASUAH Ambassador or see Ms. Johnson in 21st Century.
On Thursday February 25, the 21st Century Program will host a day of service. Please join our supply drive for the homeless! We are collecting various essentials such as toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, socks, and washcloths to make kits to be given out at a local shelter. You can place your donated items in the boxes provided by the Guidance Office and in the Commons. All items should be new, unused and unopened. We will continue to collect these items all the way up until the 25th. If you would like to help us sort and put together kits on that day, please contact Ms. Johnson in the 21st Century Program in 160 after school.
Attention German Club: If you would like to have a German Club T-shirt, please see Herr Koeppel in room 250 to sign-up. Deadline is tomorrow.
Students interested in a career in professional nursing: Memorial Medical Center and MacMurray College are sponsoring the Teens Experiencing Nursing Summer Camp, July 19-22. 30 participants will be selected from the Springfield area. Applications and brochures are available from Mrs. Povse in the Guidance Office. Deadline is Friday, April 9.
German Club will be selling tickets for Avanti’s Gondola sandwiches during lunch in the commons on Today and Friday. Tickets are $6 per sandwich. Sandwiches will be delivered on Friday, February 26th.
Juniors and Seniors - encourage your parents to attend an organizational meeting for After Prom. The meeting is Feb. 24 at 7:00 in the library. After-Prom is a parent-sponsored activity. We need parents to plan this fun activity so that SHS students have a safe place to go after prom.
10th graders - Please stop by the Guidance office if you would like a permission form to attend the Career Day field trip in March. Forms must be completed and returned by February 26th. The trip is limited to the first 60 students.
Happy Mardi Gras everyone! French Club will be selling Popeye’s Chicken Thursday at lunch. Enjoy chicken strips, mashed potatoes & gravy with a biscuit for $5.
Any High Pride member or member of the student body is invited to a meeting on Friday morning in the auditorium to discuss plans for the last home basketball game against Lincoln. Donuts will be provided. Questions, see Coach Reed.
STRIKE OUT THE WINTER BLUES!! Get a team of friends or family to join us for an evening of fun and socializing. GAPP (German American Partnership Program) is hosting a bowling fundraiser at Strike n Spare West on Lawrence Ave. Sunday, February 28, between 8:30 pm - 11:00 pm. Registration begins at 8:30 pm, unlimited bowling 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm. Cost is only $15. What a deal! Covers shoe rental and two hours of unlimited bowling. Put a team together and come dressed in costume. Your team could be awarded the prize for having the best costumes. More prizes given out through the evening. Avoid the lines that night and Pre-Register. Get your pre-registration form off Herr Koeppel's SHS webpage. Complete the form and return along with your money in an envelope to Herr Koeppel, Room 250, by Thursday, February 25. If not, just come that night to sign up. Attention Springfield High! The Student Council is organized a money drive for Haiti during the week of February 22 – February 26. The 7th hour class that brings in the most money will win a pizza party from Pizza Hut! Please help those in need!
