Just a reminder: If you received FREE bus tickets last year, you still need to fill out a new form for 2009/2010 year. You can pick one up in Room 106 - which is the NEW LOCATION for ATTENDANCE/DISCIPLINE office. Please see Mrs. Kidd.

If you take any medication either prescription or over the counter while at school or have any history of asthma, seizures or diabetes please see Nurse Kim in room 169 so she can make sure all the proper paperwork is filled out appropriately. Nurse Kim is in the building every morning from 8:30-11:30.
Also ALL 9th grade students and any student in 10th, 11th or 12th that is new to the district must have a current physical w/immunization record on file w/Nurse Kim. If you have any questions please stop by room 169 between 8:30-11:30 and see her.

Are you looking for something fun and different to do on a Wednesday night? How about a mini-golf tournament? The SHS Scholastic Bowl team is sponsoring a mini-golf tournament on Wednesday, September 23rd from 6 to 10 pm. Entry into the tournament is only 12 dollars and buys you 3 rounds of mini-golf. You can register for this exciting event anytime between now and September 16th in Mr. Adkins room, 230. You can sign up as a foursome, or as an individual, but 12 dollars per person is due at the time you register. See Mr. Adkins for more details.

Attention Class of 2012! We will be having a t-shirt design contest for our class shirts this year. T-shirts are due Tuesday, September 1st. The class officers/council will vote on a design, and which ever one is picked the designer will get a free t-shirt! Give designs to a class officer, a council member, or put it in Mary Davis’ mailbox in the main office.

Yearbook Picture and ID's for 9-11 grade are today in the auditorium. Time schedules will be posted in classrooms this week. Extra picture package flyers are in the main office and guidance office. If you want to order pictures you must bring the exact amount of money enclosed in the flyer envelope and bring it to the auditorium when you get your picture taken tomorrow.

Senior ID's are scheduled for Monday, Aug. 31 in the auditorium. Time schedules as to when seniors are to report to the auditorium should be posted in classrooms and around the building.

Freshman: Are you interested in a career in medicine? SIU School of Medicine and District 186 are partnering to help you learn what practicing medicine is all about. The P4 – Physician Pipeline Preparatory Program- is a four-year program that will give you the kind of experience that no other high school students will receive. Come to one of the informational meetings to find out more about this amazing opportunity! Informational meetings will be held September 1st at SIU School of Medicine and September 3rd at Springfield Public Schools Board Room at 6:00 pm. For more information stop by the guidance office to pick up a flyer! Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity!

High Pride will be sponsoring a tailgate before tonight’s football game against Collinsville at 5. High pride will buy 300 hotdogs and students wearing a red Springfield High shirt will receive a free hot dog. Hope to see you there!

Avanti’s! Avanti’s! Avanti’s! It’s the best! And to support the hosting of our German exchange students this fall, German Club will be selling Avanti’s tickets in the commons on Monday and Tuesday (August 31 and September 1). It is $6 for a full Gondola and $3 for a half. German students also have tickets in class for sale. The Sandwiches will come in after school on Friday, September 4 and be sold from 3:15 to 4:00. Go Avanti’s!!!

Need a car wash? German Club will be having a car wash at K-Mart on Wabash on Sunday, August 30 from 11 AM – 4 PM. Hope to see you there! Funds will be used to cover the hosting of our guest students from Germany this fall. Hope to see you there with your dirty car!

A representative from the U.S. Army will be in the commons at lunch on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Seniors: If you are interested in an appointment to a military academy Congressman John Shimkus is not accepting applications. You should have at least a 24 in English and math on your ACT. See Mrs. Povse or your assistant principal for additional details.

Any students/parents who are interested in information about Harvard, Duke, Georgetown, Penn or Stanford an informational meeting will be held Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 at the Prairie Capital Convention Center.

A college expo and pep rally will be held Wednesday, Sept. 23 at White Oaks Mall food court from 6:30-8:00. Visit with college representatives, sign up for giveaways.

Attention 9th graders who are interested in a medical field: the SIU School of Medicine announces Physicians Pipeline Preparatory Program, a program that will allow you to job shadow, work with medical students and partcipate in a medical curriculum. If you are interested, the following informational meetings are scheduled: Sept. 1 or Sept. 3rd at 6:00p.m., SIU School of Medicine, 801 N. Rutledge, south auditorium, 2nd floor.

The Girls Golf team lost to both SHG and Edwardsville last night at Piper Glen. Becca Ramirez posted a 47 while Kaitlyn Harms shot a 53 and Natalie Pryor followed with a 55. The girls are looking to bounce back next week after a 0-3 start.

The first environmental club meeting for the year will be in Ms. Vander Leest's room, Room 510, after school Thursday, September 3rd. Everyone is welcome.

Attention 10th graders if you went and got your permit over the summer you need to bring the 2nd sheet to Ms. Dvorak ASAP in room 128. If you took Driver’s Ed in Summer School you need to sign up for Behind the Wheel with Ms. Dvorak in room 128.

Last night in Boys soccer, SHS 3 Granite City 1. Jake Stults, Alex Pedraza and Mike Severino scored. Jake, Ben Harbison, and Erick Butt got assists. Andy Pedraza played great in goal with 3 amazing saves! Great job guys!
