Morning Announcements for Thursday, May 21, 2009
Attention Spanish Club members: Check the participants list on the Club bulletin board and in the Spanish classrooms to see if you are eligible to join us for a free lunch at Los Agaves on Sunday, May 24th. Your $2 registration fee, which will be returned to you at Los Agaves, must be paid when you sign up by today with your Spanish teacher.
German Club will be holding its elections for the new officers for next year today right after school in room 262. Please come and vote.
Attention student traveling to Europe with Ms. Huffman in June. There will be a mandatory meeting in the cafeteria today at 6:00 pm. You must have a representative there.
Students interested in Cross Country next fall there will be a meeting, Wednesday, May 27 from 3:15 to 3:30 in the commons. Any questions see Coach Devlin.
Yearbooks can be picked up at lunch in the commons everyday this week. If you lost your receipt or did not get one don't worry, all you need is a picture ID to pick up your book. If you are not sure if you purchased a book please stop by the table at lunch and we will look you up. Extra books are $55 and we are accepting cash only.
Attention all 2009-2010 Scarlet Line Members. Reminder there is a team meeting next Tuesday, May 26th at 3:30pm in the commons.
Jostens' will be here on Friday at 7:30 am to 8:30 to deliver the class rings and any questions on Graduation Cap and Gowns.
Attention Freshmen! The Freshmen Class will be having a fun-raiser on Friday, May 29th 3:30 - 6 in the commons. Tickets are $5 and must be payed in advanced. Come for snacks, games, and a movie. Come May 29th and help raise money for your class!
The SHS Baseball Team eeked out an 8 to 7 win over the Tornadoes of Taylorville yesterday afternoon. Heroes for the day included Will England, Matt Ruff, Michael Pittman, and Mitch Motley. England picked up his second win on the mound going 4 innings and allowing only 2 earned runs while walking no one and adding 2 hits and a steal of home to the offense. Ruff hit a 2 out bases loaded 3 run double to go along with 2 and 1/3 innings of strong relief and Pittman slammed a 2 run homer. Motley saved the day with 2 strikeouts when the bases were loaded in the bottom of the 7th. Jake Bradshaw and Tyler Muncy each contributed 2 hits apiece to the winning cause. Next up is a 5 o'clock game tomorrow against Bartonville Limestone at 4:30 at Chamberlain Park.
Lauren Stocks-Smith and Emma Muehle had Springfield's only hits as they were shutout by Lanphier 5 - 0 last night. Kimber Griffin struck out 12 and allowed only two hits. All of the five runs she surrendered were of the unearned variety. Today, the Senators travel to Lincoln for the first of two back to back against the Railers.
