Morning Announcements for Tuesday, May 12, 2009
Attention Attention Juniors and Seniors! The following schools are scheduled to visit: - May 13 John Robert Powers Performing Arts Academy, Chicago (lunch). Don't forget that passes are not required for lunch visits but you must have a pass from the guidance office up to the day before to attend the college sessions! Calendar and posters are on the Senior bulletin board, located by the Guidance office door, will have date and time the university or college will be in the building. Please ask in the Guidance office for a college pass to attend these sessions!
Prom tickets are on sale today during lunch in the commons. Ticket prices are $30 a couple and $20 a single, tickets will be sold as single tickets only for $25 at the door. Remember if your date does not attend Springfield High, you must pick up a form from the main office for your date to take to their high school and get permission.
Have you noticed the After Prom posters around school? You could win a gift card if you find the 27 errors in the 4 large After Prom posters. Use those 27 errors to unscramble a hidden message by Friday, May 15. First to unscramble the message and give the correct answer to Ms. Kilby in the Main office will win a $25 I-Tunes gift card.
Seniors, please make sure that all library books are returned to Mrs. Dahmane before cap and gown day. Any missing book fees should be paid promptly.
Attention Seniors!! Look for the lists of names posted outside the Guidance office and the Main office. These students have items or books not returned to staff. Your cap and gown will be held until these items are cleared, it is your responsibility to return items or pay what is due. If you have library materials checked out, get those returned. Check with Mrs. Krekel in the Guidance office regarding these issues as soon as possible.
ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS INTERESTED IN THE THEATRICAL ARTS: Do you want to learn all there is to know about the production of a show? Well now's your chance! This fall students will be offered the opportunity to serve as part of the Fall Play's staff. 3-6 APPRENTICESHIP positions are available for any student interested in learning the techniques of Costume, Prop, and Hair & Make-up Design. Sound interesting? Then pick up an application from the main office, Mrs. Yoggerst's room, or Ms. Elmore's room.
Hey, do you like to sing, dance, love Broadway????? Auditions for the vocal music department are next week! Sign up on the sheets outside of the choir room door or see Ms. Elmore if those times are not convenient. Scarlet Harmony, the ladies ensemble, will be doing show choir next year! Seven and Senators will remain the same. Be a part of this dynamic department.
Yearbooks are in and will be distributed tomorrow after school in the commons and during lunch in the commons on Thursday and Friday. If you purchased a yearbook you must present an ID and sign for your book. There are 270 extra books for sale. If you want to purchase one the cost is $55 and we are accepting cash only.
College bound juniors: Are you interested in a $12,000 scholarship to Illinois College in Jacksonville? Do you meet 2 of the following criteria: rank in the top 10% of your class, have an ACT score of 25 or higher, have a core academic GPA of 3.5 on a 4pt. scale? Hey JSA! We will have elections for next year's officers THIS Thursday after school in Mr. Lightfoot's room. All members are asked to attend. Come to take part in the real democratic process, and for snacks for everyone to enjoy. See you Thursday! Senators! Springfield Public Schools is holding a fundraiser for the Superintendent's roundtable on Sunday, June 7th at Baker's Square from 4 - 9 PM. Class reunions as well as the graduating class of 2009 should attend this event. In the end, Dr. Milton may get hit with a pie to celebrate this night of graduates and high school students. Again remember, June 7th at Baker's Square is the graduation party 4 - 9 PM
There will be a Do Something meeting TODAY afterschool! We will continue to mosaic the planter. Meet in Ms. Huff's room. Anyone who can help should stay.
This Thursday the class of 2011 will be selling Rally's Cheeseburgers during both lunch shifts. They are $1.50 and will sell out fast, so hurry down to the commons. Don't forget: Rally's burgers Thursday!
Hey, Senators! We hope you get Phat! (P. H. A. T. - fat, that is.) Positive, Healthy, Active and Triumphant. This Wednesday in the Southeast High School Gymnasium from 3:30 - 7 pm, the Springfield Urban League's 21st Century programs will be hosting their First Annual "Phat Expo" with the 2nd Annual 21st Century All Star Basketball Game starting at 5. There will be 3 on 3 basketball and double dutch tournaments, as well as health and wellness screenings. Not to mention, Wii Fit and Dance Dance Revolution to get your heart going! This is a FREE EVENT so see you Wednesday! If you are interested in competing in the 3 on 3 or double dutch tournaments, sign up at lunch time in the commons or come to room 160 after school.
Kimber Griffin and Kaitlyn Harms both drove in two runs in a six run first, and the Senator Softball team cruised to a 9 - 2 win over Riverton last night at UIS. Lauren Stocks-Smith had a double and a single, Lisa Peters and Emma Muehle both singled and Sydney Masten doubled to contribute to the Senators offensive attack. Emma Anderson picked up her first win of the season, while Griffin notched the save, recording all of her 10 outs via strikeouts. Today, Springfield hosts the Tornadoes at 4:30.
