Attention Attention Juniors and Seniors! The following schools are scheduled to visit: -
March 26 MacMurray 9 AM. Don't forget that passes are not required for lunch visits but you must have a pass from the guidance office up to the day before to attend the college sessions! Please ask the Guidance office for a college pass to attend these sessions!

Newspaper applications are now available. Pick one up in room 362. All applications are due to Ms. Negele by Thursday, March 26.

SENATORS! There is still time to help your school win $500 and gain $50 for yourself in the process! Posters for the City-wide "WHAT IF IT WERE YOU" HIV POSTER CONTEST will be accepted until Friday March 27. Create an 8.5 X 11 inch poster that answers the question, what would you do if you were HIV positive? The Springfield Urban League's Health Initiatives Department is challenging students at Springfield, Southeast and Lanphier by offering a $500 prize to the school with the most entries and a $50 award to the student with the most votes. Southeast is currently in the lead with 45 entries! Are we gonna go down like that?! Information packets can be found in the Main and Guidance Offices. Please see Ms. Eslahi or Mr. Caldwell for details or to see previous entries. All final submissions should be placed in Ms Johnson's mailbox in the main office.

Cheerleading try-out packets are now available in the main office. See Coach Povse with any questions. Clinic and try-outs are April 14 - 16.

Poms tryout packets are now available in the main office. Clinic days are April 20, 21, and 22nd with tryouts on the 23rd.

Are you interested in helping run our school website? The Webmasters class is looking for students for next year. If interested, please see Ms. Fox for details. Applications are available outside room 216 and are due to Ms. Fox by April 1st.

Are you interested in working and getting school credit next school year? If you will be a junior or senior next school year and are interested in the work program stop by room 112 before school to get more information. You can also talk to your guidance dean.

Who could use an extra 50 bucks? Students, you should have received a form in your 5th hour class last week informing you of this opportunity. Researchers from the University of Illinois would like to invite you to participate in a study about teens' experiences on the Internet. To tell us about yours, here's what you do:

2. Read the online assent form. If you would like to participate, click on "I would like to take the web-based survey."
3. Follow the instructions for each section of the survey. The entire survey will take you 30-45 minutes to complete. Your responses will be anonymous and kept completely confidential. For your participation you will be entered in a drawing to win one of three $50 cash prizes! The class with the most participants will also have a pizza party.

Attention former Campers from Camp Care-A-Lot. The camp director, Eydee Schultz will be in the Guidance Office on Thursday, March 26 from 11:30-12:00 to share information about scholarships and jobs this summer as junior counselors. Please stop by if you are a former Camp Care-A- Lot camper.

Do you like taking video and editing video? Did you know that SHS offers a video editing class? If you are interested in taking this course next year please talk to your guidance counselor or Mr. Mose in room 110.

Juniors & Seniors - AP tests - Sign up in the Guidance office starting today through Friday for AP tests. A check for $86 made out to Springfield High School must be turned in when you sign up.

Lincoln Land Community College is holding its spring Campus Visit Day this Saturday, March 28 from 8:30-Noon. Sessions for high school students and parents will be offered as well as campus tours, mini classes, admissions and financial aid information. Register at www.llcc.edu or call 786-2577.

The boys track and field team competed at the Charleston invite this past weekend. Top placers for SHS were Brandon Stewart, 5th place in the 800m run, Brad Walwer, 6th place in the 1600 in an auto indoor state qualifying time, The 4x8 team of Michael Gambach, Michael Simon, Nick Moore, and Justin Lee placed 7th and qualified automatically for indoor state, and the 4x2 team of Marquis Robinson, Derek Willkerson, Jordan Collins, and Neil Houlihan placed 8th. The team will compete at the Illinois prep top times meet, which is the unofficial indoor state meet, on Friday. SHS is sending 7 individuals and 2 relays to the meet.

The Urban League Scholarship for minority students who plan to attend college is now available from Mr. Lawson.

Josten's will be here Thursday before school and at lunch to distribute Senior graduation announcements.

The Scholastic Bowl team fought hard, but couldn't find a way to get past any of their three opponents at the state tournament on Friday. The team lost to eventual state champion Carbondale in the opening match of the day, and then fell in two very close games to Loyola Academy and Naperville Central. The team still managed to finish the season with the best record in school history at 67 and 8. Congratulations to the entire team on an outstanding season.
