Morning Announcements for Tuesday, February 17
Attention Attention Juniors and Seniors! The following schools are scheduled to visit: -
Tomorrow at lunch the United States Army, next Monday at lunch LLLCC, February 24th SCI at 9 AM, and February 25th University of Missouri, St. Louis at 10:15 AM. Don't forget that passes are not required for lunch visits but you must have a pass from the guidance office up to the day before to attend the college sessions! Calendar and posters are on the Senior bulletin board, located by the Guidance office door, will have date and time the university or college will be in the building. Please ask Mrs. Sharp in the Guidance office for a college pass to attend these sessions!
Do Something will be holding a Jeans for Teens clothing donation through Thursday. Please donate your gently used denim jeans every morning in the Commons before school. All the jeans are then donated to homeless teens. Please make a contribution to this wonderful cause!
If you are interested in being on the yearbook staff next year you must complete an application now. You can get a yearbook application from Mrs. Devlin in room 112 before school or you can pick one up in the guidance office. Applications are due to Mrs. Devlin by Friday - no late applications will be accepted.
Create a poster or write an essay that celebrates the 100th anniversary of the founding of the N.A.A.C.P. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded. For further details, see posters in the halls or see Mrs. Eslahi in room 254. Deadline for entry is February 23.
Ready for a great mystery? Join Literature Club at their Open Mic Night! Try to remember the clues and figure out Who Dunnit? There will be lots of food, so come hungry! If you are interested in performing at the Open Mic Night, there is a sign-up sheet in the main office. Only fifteen acts will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis. Your act can be anything from a poetry reading to a band! Don't forget Open Mic Night on March 10 at 6:00 pm in the Commons!
Are you at least 16 yrs. old and have a 3.0 GPA? Are you interested in serving in the Obama Administration as a Page? Attention Prospective girls soccer players: Any girl wishing to try out for the Girls Soccer team on March 2 must check the soccer bulletin board outside the main office to be sure their name is listed on the prospective roster. If your name is not listed, you must see Coach in room 324 at once to add it to the list. Please do this as soon as possible as it is important for the purposed of eligibility.
Hey, Freshmen! Hey, Sophomores! Hey, Juniors! Hey, Seniors! The class of 2012 will be having a Chicken Dinner Friday, February 27 from 4:30 - 7 in the commons. Dinner includes chicken, mashed potatoes, corn and a roll for $7.50. Please turn in your order with payment to Ms. Barkmeier in room 370.
The Springfield Urban League's Health Initiatives division is sponsoring the second annual HIV Poster contest for Central Illinois high school students. The theme this year is "What if it were you?" Winning entries will be awarded an I-pod, an I-Tunes gift card, and a restaurant gift card. The grand prize winner will also have his or her work on billboards throughout the state of Illinois. All submissions must be turned in the Vykye Johnson, 21st Century Site Coordinator by 5pm on March 13th. Please see any 21st Century teacher for more information.

Attention German Club! If you would like to play Capture the Flag against Spanish Club on Wednesday, February 25th, come with a $2 deposit to room 262 on Thursday right after school. Please by quick as the number of players is limited!
Mardi Gras is right around the corner. Are you ready to celebrate? French Club will be selling Mardi Gras grams for $1 all next week in the Commons at lunch. All proceeds benefit the Animal Protective League.
Attention Math Club members who will be attending the ICTM competition this Saturday, February 21st. You must turn in your permission slips to Mrs, Pence by this Thursday in room 210.

The Boys Swimming & Diving Team finished its final regular season meet with a win in a double dual with Macomb and West Prairie High Schools. A.J. Steiner and David Merrill both won two individual events, Spencer Chipman, Cory Heinemann, and Brad Walwer won one individual event. The relay team of Steiner, Walwer, Nick Zyznieuski, and Merrill won the medley relay; Walwer, Heinemann, Zyznieuski, and Merrill won the 200 free relay; and Steiner, Heinemann, Zyznieuski, and Merrill won the 400 free relay. The next meet is the Sectional Meet this Saturday at Eisenhower Pool. Please come out and support your Senators.
The Lady Senator basketball team finished the regular season by beating Chatham 63 to 44. SHS was led in scoring by Kasi Korza with 19 points. Kelly Korza added 11, and Allison Anderson and Demi VanDerWal each scored 10. Next up is the Regional starting tomorrow night at 6:00 against Lanphier at the SHG east campus. Good luck ladies.
The Senators Wrestling Team Qualified 4 individuals for this weeks State Tournament. Jimmy Vong took 2nd and David Casper & Dane Atwood took 3rd place. Ryan Spencer was a Sectional Champion.
Last Wednesday night at the Nelson Center your Springfield Senators Hockey Team beat SHG 5 -4 to win the Championship game. Adam Cheung had 2, Zac Lowman had 2 and Ian Turner had 1. It was a delightful game and the turnout was wild.
