To Celebrate Black History Month One in a Million INC. is offering a scholarship to a Senior who can write an essay, What Am I Going to Do to Write My name in History?' See Mr. Lawson to apply

An ELKS Scholarship for a Senior who plans to major in Physical or Occupational Therapy. See Mr. Lawson.

A scholarship for a child of a Marine is available from Mr. Lawson.

St. Jude Fact of the Day: According to St. Jude math if 300 Springfield High School students participate in Rally and send 25 letters to individuals that they or their family know SHS could raise more than $35,000 for St. Jude kids battling cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Rally Week starts February 2nd! Hold on to your 25 Names Fast Form in order to get out of class for the Rally on February 5th during 5th hour. The form must be completed in order for you to participate

Blood Drive on Friday, January 30th, from 9am - 2pm. Students & staff will have an opportunity to donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center. Students must be 16 or older. Students aged 16 must have a parental consent form signed by a parent or guardian. The sign-up sheet, parental consent form, and information sheet can be found in the Guidance Office. You can sign up during lunch, before school, or after school, and everyone must sign up by 3:30 pm on today. If there are questions, please see Mr. Williams.

Auditions for this year's musical, Oklahoma, will be held on Feb 2nd and 3rd in the auditorium from 6:30 until 9:00. The Music will be available in the SHS choir room. Please contact Mr. Hoots by e-mail choots@springfield.k12.il.us for further info.

Attention Spanish Club members: Permission Slips for bowling after school tomorrow are due by 3:30 PM today. Also, the annual "Lots of Latas" canned food drive is underway. Bring your canned food items to your Spanish teacher and win a free pizza lunch!

Valentine Carnations will be sold before school and during both lunch shifts in the commons on Feb. 2-6. The cost is $1.00 per flower and they will be delivered on Feb. 11. See Mrs. Devlin or Mrs. Curry with questions.

Recycling fact: Recycling will work if everyone makes it part of their life. Support recycling by purchasing products made from recycled materials. You will now find recycling bins for cans and plastic bottles on every floor, in the commons and outside of the cafeteria. The Environmental Club would like your cans and bottles back after you are done with them. If you see a need for a bin somewhere else, please let an Environmental Club member know. Go Green!

There will be an Environmental Club meeting Monday after school in Ms. Vander Leest's room. There will be tasty treats for those who come. Everyone is welcome.

The pizza today will be from Pizza Machine. It is $2 a slice and will be sold during both lunch shifts. The sophomore class will also be selling Carmello's, Rollo's and Extreme's from the pizza table for $1.

Attention Sophomores: If you did not get a class of 2011 shirt, today is your lucky day! We will be having a 50% off sale. You can get a t-shirt for $5. They will sold on a first come first serve basis!

Juniors: Did you know there is a class here at SHS that is for seniors only and helps you with College Selection, Career Interests, and Skill on how to get a job? Jobs for Illinois Graduates is currently recruiting students for next year. If you are interested in a class like this come to the JILG table in the commons during lunch and find out more.

The SITE club will be meeting after school tomorrow in room 216. If you can't make it, please see Ms. Fox for details on our upcoming events.

Do Something will be holding a Jeans for Teens clothing donation starting February 3 through February19. Please donate your gently used denim jeans every morning in the Commons before school. All the jeans are then donated to homeless teens. Please make a contribution to this wonderful cause!

If you are interested in being on the yearbook staff next year you must complete an application now. You can get a yearbook application from Mrs. Devlin in room 112 before school or you can pick one up in the guidance office. Applications are due to Mrs. Devlin by February 20 - no late applications will be accepted.

There will be a mandatory Math Club meeting on Monday February 2. Come to Mrs. Pence's room afterschool for a short but important meeting. If you are unable to make this meeting, please see Mrs. Pence. Remember Math Club meeting Monday.

Attention! Attention! Do Something will be having a mandatory meeting on Tuesday February 3. We will be discussing many topics this day and everyone needs to attend. Don't forget the Do Something meeting on Tuesday!

Literature Club will be having its next meeting on Wednesday February 4. We will be discussing last month's books and picking new books for February. Remember Lit Club meeting Wednesday in Ms. Negle's room.

The Lady Senator basketball team jumped out to a quick lead and beat SHG 59 to 47. Leading SHS in scoring was Kelly Korza with 17 points. Zahna Medley and Allison Anderson each added 11 and Demi VanDerWal contributed 10. SHS will play Southeast at Lanphier tonight for the City title starting at 7:30. Good luck ladies.
