To Celebrate Black History Month One in a Million INC. is offering a scholarship to a Senior who can write an essay, What Am I Going to Do to Write My name in History?' See Mr. Lawson to apply

An ELKS Scholarship for a Senior who plans to major in Physical or Occupational Therapy. See Mr. Lawson.

St. Jude Fact of the Day: St. Jude was the first institution to develop a cure for sickle cell disease with a bone transplant and has one of the largest pediatric sickle cell programs in the country. Rally Week starts February 2nd! Hold on to your 25 Names Fast Form in order to get out of class for the Rally on February 5th during 5th hour. The form must be completed in order for you to participate

Blood Drive on Friday, January 30th, from 9am - 2pm. Students & staff will have an opportunity to donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center. Students must be 16 or older. Students aged 16 must have a parental consent form signed by a parent or guardian. The sign-up sheet, parental consent form, and information sheet can be found in the Guidance Office. You can sign up during lunch, before school, or after school, and everyone must sign up by 3:30 pm on Thursday, January 29th. If there are questions, please see Mr. Williams.

Students who are interested in nursing: Chamberlain College of Nursing will be hosting an "Experience Nursing Day" at the St. Louis campus on Feb. 4 from 9-noon. Juniors or seniors who have a 2.75 or above GPA and a 21 on ACT would qualify. SIU-Edwardsville is holding their School of Nursing Open House on Sat., Feb. 14 from 8:30-noon. See Mrs. Povse for registration details.

SENIORS: If you or your parents are unable to attend the SHS Financial Aid Night on Wed., Feb. 11or need additional assistance you will have another chance to get help. On Tuesday, Feb. 17, Lincoln Library (main branch) will sponsor a Financial Aid Workshop at 6:00 in the College Assistance Program Center on 2nd floor. Free underground parking available for this event.

Math Club t-shirts are in. If you ordered one, you can pick it up in Mrs. Pence's room. They are $10.

Auditions for this year's musical, Oklahoma, will be held on Feb 2nd and 3rd in the auditorium from 6:30 until 9:00. The Music will be available in the SHS choir room beginning January 26th. Please contact Mr. Hoots by e-mail choots@springfield.k12.il.us for further info.

Attention German Club: We will be showing the movie "What to do in case of fire?" on Tuesday, January 27, right after school in room 262. Please see Herr Koeppel for the parent permission form and for more information. We hope to see you there.

Attention Spanish Club members: Permission Slips for bowling after school this Friday, January 30th are due by 3:30 PM Thursday. Also, the annual "Lots of Latas" canned food drive is underway. Bring your canned food items to your Spanish teacher and win a free pizza lunch!

Valentine Carnations will be sold before school and during both lunch shifts in the commons on Feb. 2-6. The cost is $1.00 per flower and they will be delivered on Feb. 11. See Mrs. Devlin or Mrs. Curry with questions.

Sophomores, juniors and seniors: If you have never visited a college campus you should take advantage of the free trips with the Post Secondary Coach, Mrs. Povse. The permission slips for the college bus trip to Eastern Illinois University, Feb. 26, are now available in the Guidance Office. Other trips are Illinois State, Feb. 20th and McKendree Univ., March 27. Permission slips for this Friday's trip to MacMurray and Illinois Colleges in Jacksonville need to be turned in by Thursday morning. Lunch on this trip is provided by Illinois College.

French Club will be having our annual Café' Day after school today. Come to room 268 and enjoy!

Recycling fact: The 36 billion aluminum cans put in landfills last year had a scrap value of more than $600 million. Some day we'll be mining our landfills for the resources we've buried. You will now find recycling bins for cans and plastic bottles on every floor, in the commons and outside of the cafeteria. The Environmental Club would like your cans and bottles back after you are done with them. If you see a need for a bin somewhere else, please let an Environmental Club member know. Go Green!

Be A Senator is selling Papa John's pizza this Thursday for $2 a slice. Don't forget, Thursday is pizza, pizza, pizza.

Juniors: Did you know there is a class here at SHS that is for seniors only and helps you with College Selection, Career Interests, and Skill on how to get a job? Jobs for Illinois Graduates is currently recruiting students for next year. If you are interested in a class like this come to the JILG table in the commons during lunch and find out more.
