The word for this week is draconian (dra CONE ian), an adjective meaning "extremely harsh, cruel or severe." Here are some examples of how this word is used:
"According to the draconian legal code of Ancient Greece, even very small offenses were punishable by death."
"Playing on its associations with cruel governments and dragons, the word draconian' has been used in connection with a weird assortment of things ranging from astronomy to fantasy games to computer systems to the sci-fi TV series Dr. Who'. It is even the name of a Swedish gothic metal band."
