Morning Announcements for Monday, November 10
The yearbook staff is doing a feature story on what activities students do after school such as ballet, hockey, horseback riding, etc. Please submit pictures along with information about your activity to Mrs. Devlin's mailbox in the main office.
Attention seniors - There is a list of seniors who have had their senior picture taken for the yearbook on the Capitoline web page. To guarantee we have an accurate list, seniors must check this list and report any questions or concerns to Mrs. Devlin or any yearbook staff member. You can access the Capitoline web page by going to the school web site and clicking on Clubs and then Capitoline.
If you purchased last years' yearbook you should have received a supplement in homeroom last week. If you did not receive your supplement please see Mrs. Devlin in room 112 before school.

Don't forget: Passes are not required for lunch visits but....You must have a pass from the guidance office to attend the college sessions. The calendar and the posters are on the Senior bulletin board located outside the Guidance office. Listed are dates and times the University or College will be in the building. Please ask Mrs. Sharp in the guidance office for a college pass to attend these sessions!
The Horatio Alger Scholarship for Seniors who can show critical financial need is available from Mr. Lawson.
The Four Chambers awards scholarships which pays tuition to Linconland, Robert Morris, SCI and the University of Ill at Springfield is now available from Mr. Lawson. Deadline is December 1.
A scholarship is available for an African-American male who plans to attend a Historical Black College. See Mr. Lawson

Seniors: If you need help with college applications, essays, getting the FAFSA completed or other topics related to college, get help at a free workshop at Lincoln Library, Thursday, Nov. 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 in the Carnegie Room North. Pick up an informational flyer in Guidance.
SENIORS: If you are looking for scholarships, check out the SHS website under Guidance and click on scholarships. Every scholarship that comes to the school will be listed as we receive them. See if you are a qualifier for any of them and get your applications from Mr. Lawson or Mrs. Povse.
All 9th graders will take the Explore Test next Wednesday thru Friday. When told to report to the commons please bring 2 sharpened pencils. No mechanical pencils.

Do Something will be holding its next meeting on Wednesday, November 12. The Dodgeball Tournament is approaching fast, so all members are required to attend. Come knowing times you will be able to volunteer as a referee. Remember the Do Something meeting next Wednesday after school!
Hey hey, JSA, we're back to meeting again! When: Thursday after school Where: Mr Lightfoot's room What: DEBATE! Debating still new to you? Unsure of how it works or what to say? Come on Thursday! We will debate a top issue and get everyone in on the action. If you are attending Fall State, this meeting is mandatory, and you should come by Mr. Lightfoot's room to get a copy of the Fall State debate list. Remember- JSAAA on Thursdaaay.
The Cross Country team competed in the State Meet Saturday at Detweiler Park. The Varsity Girls Team finished 7th place in State. Kirby Hale was the top place for SHS - finishing in 11th place & earning All-State Honors. Great Job girls for a wonder season! The Varsity Boys Team finished 6th place in the state. Matt Havey was the top placer for SHS - Matt missed All-State by one place. Great job boys!
All Cross Country Athletes need to turn in equipment to Coach Devlin this week and pick up banquet form.
The SHS Scholastic Bowl team looked very impressive on Saturday as they won all 8 of their matches to take the championship at the Central Illinois Coaches Association Kickoff event in Petersburg. In just one of the day's many highlights, a 360 point drubbing of conference rival Chatham Glenwood, the team served notice that the 4 time defending conference champs have no intention of relinquishing that title anytime soon. Senior Carl Butt set a school single game scoring record by answering 9 of the 20 questions in the win against Glenwood. A quick reminder that their will be JV practice tonight and that the bus for Chatham will leave at 5:00 pm on Wednesday.
Today is the first day of wrestling practice! All those going out should meet in the Football Varsity locker room right after school. See you there!
Freshmen and Sophomore Boys Basketball tryouts are tonight at 6 PM in the Main Gym.
Cheerleading practice will be Wednesday & Thursday this week.
