Morning Announcements for Thursday, October 9
Attention all Juniors who plan to attend a four year college: The district has a grant to pay for all sophomores to take the PSAT. If you are a junior who wishes to take the PSAT for scholarship purposes, please bring $15 check made out to Springfield High School. The PSAT test will be given on Wednesday, October 15th, at 8:30 AM in the commons. Sign up in the Guidance office to receive your test booklet.
It is time to board the bus and head for college. Sophomores, but particurlarly juniors and undecided seniors, the first 3 of our college bus trips are scheduled. Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Oct. 29, Blackburn College, Carlinville on Nov. 6th and Western Illinois University, Macomb on Nov. 21. Seating is done, first come, first served. Permission slips are available from Mrs. Povse in Guidance. Grades will be checked. These trips do not count against Be a Senator incentive.
This is a great opportunity for you to tour a college campus, hear about admissions requirements, visit a residence hall and have lunch on campus.
The Lillian Glover Scholarship for Seniors in the upper 25% of their class who intend to enroll in an Education related degree program, is now available from Mr. Lawson.
Attention all NHS members. If you are interested in getting service hours volunteering at the Early Learning Center's Fall Festival on October 21st or by helping provide childcare for PTO meetings, sign up on the NHS board or talk to Mr. Lightfoot.
Attention Freshmen and New students: Please make sure all physicals and immunizations are turned into Nurse Kim in the guidance office ASAP! Any student not having the required documentation on file WILL NOT be allowed back to school after Wednesday. Letters have been sent home to any student that does not have required information on file. This is a state law therefore no exceptions can be made.
There will be a chess team meeting today. However, you can also come any day after school, if you cannot attend tomorrow. Coach Szabo, make your move.

Attention, Attention Class of 2012: Freshmen class t-shirts will be sold during lunch today, and tomorrow this week. The cost is $10 and payment is expected at the time of order. Be Fresh"man and order a t-shirt!
We are in need of pictures for the junior section in the yearbook. If you have any pictures of you or your friends and want to be in the yearbook, then bring them to Mrs, Devlin's mailbox as soon as possible.
The yearbook staff is looking for candid pictures of freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors. The senior section of the yearbook is also in need of pictures of seniors when you are young. Please put pictures in Mrs. Devlin's mailbox in the main office.
Yearbook Surveys that were distributed during homeroom last week are due Fri, Oct. 10. Please submit completed surveys to Mrs. Devlin's mailbox in the main office.
Attention all students! Make your voice heard! Are you interested in being the District 186 Student School Board member, or being a part of the Superintendent's Roundtable? If so, applications are due today to your principal. Still interested but have not submitted an application? It's not too late! See your principal for more information about how to apply.
The SITE club will have a meeting after school Friday in room 216.
Looking for a creative outlet? Want to have your voice heard? Then enter Ready Illinois' High School Challenge! The Illinois Emergency Management Agency is looking for individuals or teams of students to write a 30 public service announcement on disaster preparedness. Winning teams will have their announcement aired on TV or radio, a school assembly in their honor, and will win $10,000 for their school. If interested, please see Ms. Fox for details.
Are you a Bass Fisherman? Springfield High School Bass Team sound interesting? Want to bring home more hardware to SHS? See Mr. Szabo Thursday or Friday after school about competing in the IHSA sanctioned Bass Tournaments.
Any girls track team members that wish to participate in the Jumps and Throws camp at Illinois College need to see Coach Edwards ASAP.
Yesterday the girls golf team advanced to sectionals as a team with a 3rd place score of 377. Tess Edwards finished strong on 17 and 18 with back to back birdies to finish with a year low, 39 on the back. Edwards finished with an 86 and a 5th place finish as an individual. Next was Andrea Ribelin with a 92. Followed by Rebbecca Ramirez carding a 94 and Kaitlyn Harms with a 105. The girls look ahead to Mondays Section at Roland Barkau Memorial Golf Course in Okawville, IL. Congratulations Lady Senators!!!
