There will be a chess team meeting today. We will be discussing chess notation, special chess moves, and play several matches. All members are highly recommended to attend at least one of the meetings. Coach Szabo says see you today!

Picture retakes are tomorrow in the auditorium. If you need pictures retaken you must bring your picture package with you to the auditorium. If you missed getting your picture taken in August you must get your picture taken tomorrow. Picture package flyers are in the main office. Remember these pictures are for the yearbook and for your school ID.

The Education Fair for Juniors and Seniors will be on Wednesday, October 8th, at the Fairgrounds between 12:30 PM and 2 PM. Interested students should pick up a parent permission slip in the Guidance office and return it to the Guidance office BEFORE Monday, October 6th. The Students will be dismissed after 3rd hour and will not return to school. To be excused the permission slip must be returned and the students must sign in to an administrator at the Orr Building. If you need transportation, see Mr. Lawson. This year an evening session for parents is from 5 PM to 7 PM.

There will be an informational meeting today after school for those interested in joining the PREVENTION CLUB! The meeting will take place in room 266 and should not last longer than a ½ hour. The Prevention Club is an organization that prevents drug use with high school aged kids. Come on out!

The Consumer Education Proficiency exam will be given on Tuesday, October 7th at 7:30 AM in the library. You cannot take the exam if you are currently enrolled in consumer education and you can only take one exam per school year. The exam will also be given in January. If interested sign up in the Guidance department to receive your consumer education book.

Now accepting open enrollment for 21st Century After School Program here at Springfield High! We offer individualized tutoring instruction as well as a host of enrichment activities to take place throughout the coming weeks. All students all welcome. Please come to room 160 by 3:20 pm Monday through Thursday to enroll. Ms Johnson is looking forward to hearing from you!

Hey, are you going to watch the Palin vs. Biden Vice Presidential debate? Come watch with JSA! We will have a debate night pizza party at Alicia Pettys' house tonight. At 7 pm we will discuss the effect of the vice-presidency on the election, and at 8 we will watch the debate on TV. See Alicia or Mr. Lightfoot for directions to Alicia's house.

Sign up in the SHS library for the Read for a Lifetime program from the Illinois State Library. Sign up deadline is Oct. 20. See Mrs. Dahmane for all the details and the reading list.

Scholastic Bowl practice after school today. Any JV team members that can be there should attend.

Attention Seniors who are applying to colleges - PLEASE bring Mr. Lawson a stamped addressed envelope for the transcript or send the common application to Mr. Lawson through email.

The SITE club will be meeting Friday in room 216.

There will be an Environmental Club meeting in Ms. Vander Leest's room Monday after school. Everyone is welcome.

The Class of 2011 T-shirts are in. If you ordered one, you can pick it up during lunch in the commons this Friday. If you would like to buy one, they are $10 and can also be purchased this Friday at lunch.
