Morning Announcements for Monday, September 29
Attention Attention Juniors and Seniors! The following schools are scheduled to visit: - Today at 9:00 Eastern Illinois University, and tomorrow Lunch LLLC. Don't forget that passes are not required for lunch visits but you must have a pass from the guidance office up to the day before to attend the college sessions! Calendar and posters are on the Senior bulletin board, located by the Guidance office door, will have date and time the university or college will be in the building. Please ask Mrs. Sharp in the Guidance office for a college pass to attend these sessions!
Attention, Attention, Attention! The Freshmen Class will be selling pictures that were taken during Spirit Week. You may purchase a 4 x 6 print for $1, a 5 x 7 print for $3 or an 8 x 10 print for $6. The pictures are located on beautifully laminated posters across from the main office. You may place an order for pictures after school in room 370. Payment is expected at time of order.
There will be an Environmental Club meeting in Ms. Vander Leest's room after school today. Everyone is welcome.
There will be a Math Club meeting today at 3:20 PM in Mrs. Pence's room 210. The meeting will only last 15 minutes, so please be prompt!
There will be a chess team meeting today and Thursday. We will be discussing chess notation, special chess moves, and play several matches. All members are highly recommended to attend at least one of the meetings. Coach Szabo says see you Monday!
Picture retakes are Friday, Oct. 3 in the auditorium. If you need pictures retaken you must bring your picture package with you to the auditorium. If you missed getting your picture taken in August you must get your picture taken on Friday. Picture package flyers are in the main office. Remember these pictures are for the yearbook and for your school ID.
The yearbook is looking for pictures for the "when you were Young" page of the senior section. We will accept pictures from infant through middle school. If any senior wished to turn in a picture please put in Mrs. Devlin's mailbox by Oct. 10.
Attention German Club! Tuesday, September 30 is the last day to pay the fee of $8 and to return the alcohol/drug policy form in order to be a member of German Club. Please see Herr Koeppel in room 262.
The Education Fair for Juniors and Seniors will be on Wednesday, October 8th, at the Fairgrounds between 12:30 PM and 2 PM. Interested students should pick up a parent permission slip in the Guidance office and return it to the Guidance office BEFORE Monday, October 6th. The Students will be dismissed after 3rd hour and will not return to school. To be excused the permission slip must be returned and the students must sign in to an administrator at the Orr Building. If you need transportation, see Mr. Lawson. This year an evening session for parents is from 5 PM to 7 PM.
Attention, Attention! Literature Club will be having a meeting Wednesday, October 1st, in Mrs. Koen's room, room 406. We will be discussing our last book, The Warrior Heir, and picking a new one. The genre for October will be mystery, so come with titles of mystery books you enjoyed. Remember Lit Club Wednesday in Mrs. Koen's room.
The girl's golf team shot a team score of 411 at Lick Creek Golf Course in Pekin on Saturday. Leading the way for the Senators was Andrea Ribelin with a 95. Tess Edwards followed with a 99, Rebbecca Ramirez carded a 103 and Mackenzie McDermott added a 116. On hole 17 Ribelin earned the longest drive award and both Edwards and Ribelin achieved the top 18 as individuals.
Saturday at Lincoln Greens in boys golf, SHS junior George Tate saved his best for last. Down by two strokes with only two holes left, George birdied 17 and 18, coming in at three under par 69 and claiming medalist honors in the Sangamon County tournament. Robby Hill finished fourth with a 75, while Kurt Southworth and Troy Klunick came in at 83 and 87 respectively. Springfield placed second in the tourney, four shots behind three time champ SH-G.
The word for this week is salient. According to Dictionary.com, salient is an adjective that means prominent or conspicuous, as in "the salient issues of the recent debate were the economy and the war." The word can also be used as a noun meaning an outward projection in a fortress, battle line or landform.
