Morning Announcements for Monday, September 15
Seniors: The Senior Panoramic Picture has been postponed this morning because of the abundance of rain over the weekend. It will be rescheduled at a later date.
Any Juniors who plan to graduate early and want to be in the Senior section of the yearbook must contact Class Act by September 30
Picture retakes are Friday, Oct. 3 Seniors - If you have not had your senior portrait taken by Class Act you must do so before Sept. 30. Contact Class Act at 787-4947 to schedule an appointment.
Juniors and seniors who are interested in the following colleges: Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn, or Stanford. Representatives from those schools will be in Springfield on Thursday, Sept. 25, 7:30 (suggested arrival at 7:15) at the Crowne Plaza to present information about admission to their schools. Attention Attention Juniors and Seniors! The following schools are scheduled to visit: - Today 1:30 Truman State 9:00 Greenville College 11:00 Cornell Sept 17th at 9:30 is University of Chicago at lunch Army, and Sept 18th 1:30 PM St. Louis University. Don't forget that passes are not required for lunch visits but you must have a pass from the guidance office up to the day before to attend the college sessions! Calendar and posters are on the Senior bulletin board, located by the Guidance office door, will have date and time the university or college will be in the building. Please ask Mrs. Sharp in the Guidance office for a college pass to attend these sessions!
Math and business students: Illinois State University is sponsoring an Actuarial Career Fair, Monday, Sept. 29 from 3:00-6:00 in the Bone Student Center at ISU. Scholarship opportunities from State Farm and Country Insurance companies will be showcased as well. See Mrs. Povse or the scholarship bulletin board outside room 106 for further information.

The Illinois Department of Transportation is holding its second annual career fair, Thurs., Oct. 2 at the fairgrounds. Students who are interested in engineering, geology, drafting, road or bridge building, GIS, or operating road equipment should sign up to attend. The trip is from 9 to 2. Pick up permission slips from Mrs. Povse in the Guidance Office. Permission forms are due Sept. 18.
Springfield Urban League 21st Century After School Program will begin today in Rm. 160 promptly at 3:25. A variety of academic, recreational, and culturally enriching activities are planned for this year. Please pick up an enrollment form and a brochure in the main office. All questions should be forwarded to Ms. Johnson, the 21st Century Site Coordinator. All students are welcome!
There will be an Environmental Club meeting today after school in Ms. Vander Leest's room. Officer elections will be held. Everyone is welcome.
Homecoming tickets will be on sale in the commons at lunch today! Single tickets are $10, couples are $15 in advance, so come to the commons with your money and ID ready! Guest request forms for non-SHS students are available in the main office.
The 2008-2009 Yearbook Staff is looking for candid pictures from Seniors for the Senior Collage pages. They can be recent or old photos of you and your fellow classmates. If you would like to submit pictures, please place them in Mrs. Devlin's mailbox by October 1st.
There will be a Chess Club meeting Monday and Thursday after school in Mr. Szabo's room, room 524.
All High Pride members are encouraged to pay for their t-shirt by the end of the week.
Hey you! Are you interested in the election issues? Well JSA is the place for you! Join us after school this Thursday, September 18th in Mr. Lightfoot's room 330 as we debate one of the hottest issues in the 08 Election... offshore oil drilling. Does it harm the environment? Will it cheapen that gallon of gas for your car? Come Thursday and help us decide!
The Cross Country team competed in the Lee Halberg Invite at Lincoln Park on Saturday. The Varsity Girls Team finished 3rd out of 18 teams. Christy Rolf was the top finisher for SHS. The JV Girls team finished 1st. Julia McClure was the top finisher for SHS. The Varsity Boys team finished 2nd out of 21 teams. Justin Lee was the top finisher for SHS. The Freshmen Boys team placed 3rd Michael Simon was the top finisher for SHS. The JV Boys team placed 2nd. Michael Upperman finished 1st place in this race.
