Who will be holding the cash when WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS is played? It is DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT TIME! This trophy and cash prize is the envy of all, so start strategizing and forming your teams, and scheming a crazy costume - a cash prize goes to the best team costume as well! The Booster Club’s annual Dodgeball Tournament will be held Thursday, Novemer 10th at 7pm in the SHS gymnasium. (There is no school that Friday) Registration and waiver forms are available on the school website and in the school office. Anyone under 18 must have a waiver signed. Entry is $5 per player, except Freshman are free! May the best team win!
Seniors who are planning to graduate at semester need to see Ms. Greco in Guidance.
There is a short essay contest for Illinois high school seniors to express their beliefs as they are about to enter the adult world. The ten winning essays are broadcasted on NPR Illinois in the author’s voice, printed in the SJ-R, and read in front of the Rotary Club of Springfield Sunrise where the club presents 10 winners with a $100 scholarship. Essays may be submitted January 2 - January 26. If you are a senior and interested in submitting an essay, please stop by the guidance office for more information.
Tardy or Treat Freshman! If you had no tardies during the month of October, please come pick up your treat in the Commons during your lunch period today. There were 191 tardies reported for Freshman during the month of October, a 28% reduction from the number previously reported. Great work to the 318 Freshman who were tardy free all month!! Remember to get your treat today at lunch!
There will be a meeting for all boys interested in joining the boys swimming and diving team on Wednesday, November 2 at 7 PM in the cafeteria. Parents need to attend also. If you have questions, please call Head Coach, Mary Beth Stephens at 494-2613.
The 1st quarter acknowledgement will be on Nov. 4th during both lunch shifts. Those students who received no referrals during 1st quarter will get freshly popped popcorn. Lists will be posted throughout the building starting Wed. and teachers will have the lists as well.
Tutoring has officially begun as of yesterday. It will be available Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 3:30-4:30 pm after school in Room 160, and Tuesdays & Thursdays, 7:45 to 8:15 am before school in Mr. Crum’s class, Room 228. Please make sure to sign-in upon arrival & out when leaving.
Atención Spanish Club members! We will be watching the movie ’The Book of Life’ in Spanish after school on Tuesday in room 260. All members are welcome. There will also be plenty of food, so come with an appetite. Hope to see you there!
The Business Dept and Work Program are having a Shoe Drive. We are collecting gently worn shoes. Please bring any of the following and drop off in the box outside Mr. Kogers room 110. Womens, kids, mens shoes, athletic, casual, dress shoes, cowboy boots and sandals are all acceptable.
Scholastics Bowl, there will be a whole team practice today, Monday, October 31, 2016 and the first home meet on November 1, 2016.

A team of area high school students is meeting on Tuesday, November 1 at 6:00 p.m. at the Sangamon County Complex in courtroom 6C. If you are interested in being part of a mock trial team, please come to participate or get more information.

The boys soccer team won the Urbana Sectional with a 1-0 victory over Chatham. Nate Cheung scored on an assist by Luke Owsley and Evan Wright recorded the shut-out. The soccer team will take on Jacksonville on Tuesday in the Super-Sectional.
The cross-country team competed in the Sectional Meet on Saturday. The girls team finished 3rd and qualified to the State Meet. Shay Doty was top finisher for the SHS. The boys team finished 4th and qualified to the State meet. Jackson Esela was the top finisher for SHS. Congratulations!
