Attention students! The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence is sponsoring it’s 22nd annual student voices contest. The deadline is February 17th. There are 4 categories: essay, poetry, art and spoken word. Each winner will receive a new iPad and his/her teacher receives a $100 gift card to an art store or book store. If you are interested in submitting a piece, stop by the guidance office to pick up an information packet or you can go to www.ichv.org

SHS boys won Tuesday night in a triangular with Chatham and Southeast, winning 10 of the 12 events. Shoutouts to Evan Weller for swimming the 100 fly twice, and going faster the second time! And to Gage Hamill for almost swimming a state qualifying time in the 200 IM, and to Drew Harmon for a personal best total in diving, and to ALL of the team for a job well done. Come see them swim and dive THIS SATURDAY at the Conference meet Diving at 9 AM Swimming at 1PM - Eisenhower Pool - it will be awesome!

Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Muhammad Ali” is the theme of this year’s African American History Month of celebrations, which will be held February 24th in the auditorium. Students, see the essay contest and poster contest details posted in the halls. The three top winners get prizes. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, first period classes can participate in the “African American History Trivia Contest.” Give your answers to Ms. Moseley in room 364. The class that wins gets a class party.

The Lady Senator basketball team lost to Rochester last night 49 to 42. SHS was led by Abby Ratsch with 14 points and Montshianna Pulliam with 10. Next up is a game tomorrow at Jacksonville.
