Good morning Springfield High! Today is MOnday, October 16, 2017.

Attention those interested in nursing: St. John’s College of Nursing will be hosting an open house today. There are two sessions available. See the special programs page on the guidance webpage or Mrs. Lauer for details!

 

Attention seniors !!! — See Mr. Schurman / Mrs. Lauer if you are interested in writing an essay for the DAR Good Citizen Program and Scholarship . Two national winners will be awarded $5,000.00 and invited to Washington DC to read the essay.

 

Come join the fun at the Springfield MS Society Boo Run 5K.  It’s at Southward Park on Saturday, October 28 at 10:30 a.m..  Registration begins at 9, everyone is welcome - all ages - in costume or not in costume.  Your participation and proceeds go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  Run and help while having fun!  See Jacob Beaird for details!

 

Attention seniors: Anyone planning on majoring in education should see Mrs. Lauer in the post secondary office for a scholarship opportunity.

Attention Seniors: Mrs. Lauer and Victoria Jones from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) will be hosting a “College Changes Everything” Application Completion Day on Tuesday, October 31st in the Ghandi room. Student will have the opportunity to complete their college application with assistance available to ensure everything is done correctly! To sign up, see Mrs. Laurer in the post secondary office.

 

The capital area career center CACC will have an open house Thursday, October 19 from 5-7.  Students who are interested in attending CACC next year are encouraged to attend.

 

Attention juniors and seniors: Sign ups for college representatives currently scheduled to speak at SHS in October are hanging outside Mrs. Lauer’s office. Make sure you have checked for any schools you are interested in. Representatives will be here from ISU, SEMO, MIZZOU, BRADLEY, SIU-C, EASTERN, WESTERN, TRUMAN STATE, HARRIS STOWE STATE and more!! Any questions, see Mrs. Lauer in the post secondary office

 

Are you interested in pursuing a law degree and would like to experience a mock trial in a courtroom?  The Illinois State Bar Association is going to host a mock trial competition for area high school students.  Students gain experience by portraying an attorney, defendant, plaintiff, or witness.  Please see Mrs. Gordy in the guidance office for more information if you are interested in participating in this event.  

 

Mrs. Lauer will be taking 30 students to tour Illinois State University and hear an admissions presentation on Tuesday, November 14th. If you are interested in attending, you must sign up IN PERSON 4th-7th hours, while she is in the post secondary office. You cannot sign up for your friends. The deadline for seniors to sign up is Thursday, November 9th. Students must be passing all classes to attend. 

 

Vamos Spanish Club: Join your amigos to watch the movie”The Book of Life” after school on Thursday, October 19th in Room 116. Snacks and a good time are guaranteed. Nos vemos! (nose vaymose).

 

 

 

The cross country team competed in the Central State conference meet at Lincoln Park on Saturday. The girls team finished third in the team standings. Gabby Wood finished in 2nd place and Varsha Iyer finished 11th place to earn all-conference honors.

The boys team finished 2nd in the team standings. Kyle Boughter finished 2nd, Will Formea 6th place, Barrett Kurmann 8th place and Zach Kinison 9th place to earn all-conference honors. Congratulations to all the SHS runners for a great performance at the conference meet.

 

The SHS Girls' Tennis Team played wrapped up their season at the Edwardsville Sectional this weekend.  Through the efforts of Sophia Roth, Maya Hofmann, Rachel Shelly, Emma Bolinger, Emma Batterman, and Freya Jennison, SHS ended up in a tie for 5th place out of 9 teams.  Last year the team was 9th overall.  The SHS Girls Tennis Team ended their season 5-2 overall and 4-1 in Conference.  Good job ladies!!!
