Good morning Springfield High! Today is Wednesday, October 25, 2017

Come join the fun at the Springfield MS Society Boo Run 5K.  It’s at Southward Park on Saturday, October 28 at 10:30 a.m..  Registration begins at 9, everyone is welcome - all ages - in costume or not in costume.  Your participation and proceeds go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  Run and help while having fun!  See Jacob Beaird for details!


Senior Superlative forms are due no later than Nov 15th.  Bring them to room 254 or give them to either Paige Woods, McKenzie Lehmann, T'Mya Dumas or Natalie Berendt


Everyone loves a little candy, right?  Well, surprise your friends or teachers with a "boo gram" next week on Halloween!  Pay $1 and fill out a “boo gram” card and the Scarlet Line Dance Team will deliver them and a small bag of assorted candy during 7th hour on Halloween!    Purchase your boo gram during either lunch shift on Tuesday or Thursday this week!


The yearbook spring supplement is in for those who bought last year's book; bring your i.d. and, at your convenience, pick yours up in room 254.


Wrestling will be having a Prospective Managers Meeting this Thursday the 26th immediately following school. Meeting will be held in the Commons

If anyone is interested in joining the SHS Boys Swim Team this year, please meet our new Coach Macke in the auditorium this Thursday, October 26th at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.


Attention students interested in nursing: On Monday November 13th, Dr. Charlene Aaron, Chancellor of St. John’s College of Nursing, will be at SHS to present the different pathways and licensure to becoming a nurse during A and B lunches in room 150. Students can eat their lunch while she presents. See Mrs. Lauer in the post secondary office for details!

This is the last week to sign up and still get a shirt! BE PREPARED TO BE SCARED!! Today and tomorrow CEO students will be registering students for the run - come to the table on A or B lunch and sign up to run and have fun.  Bring your $20.


Attention Seniors: Mrs. Lauer and Victoria Jones from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) will be hosting a “College Changes Everything” Application Completion Day on Tuesday, October 31st in the Ghandi room. Student will have the opportunity to complete their college application with assistance available to ensure everything is done correctly! To sign up, see Mrs. Laurer in the post secondary office.


Are you interested in pursuing a law degree and would like to experience a mock trial in a courtroom?  The Illinois State Bar Association is going to host a mock trial competition for area high school students.  Students gain experience by portraying an attorney, defendant, plaintiff, or witness.  Please see Mrs. Gordy in the guidance office for more information if you are interested in participating in this event.  


Want to see who the new staffers are around Springfield High? Curious to see who made the cut for this issue’s Cupids Couples? Well, then, make sure to buy a Senator newspaper on Wednesday, October 23rd. Each copy costs only 25 cents. Newspaper staffers will be selling them at both lunch shifts. Support the printed word and buy your newspaper for a quarter!


The awesome football playoff shirts are in!! Come pick up your spirit wear from Ms. Negele’s room, 362, on Wednesday and Thursday after school.


1.  Any choir student that sold Fannie May for the fundraiser, ALL forms and money need to be turned in NO LATER than today!  Late forms will not be accepted.  


2.  Any choir student that would like to order a t shirt or hoodie for the 2nd order we are placing, forms and money need to be turned in no later than Wednesday.  



Order your yearbook now in room 254.  Make your check or money order for $60 out to SHS, or you can pay cash.  In January, the cost rises to $70.


Seniors, Call Grussenmeyer Photography at 7876688 to schedule to have your portrait taken.  If you want to have your baby picture in this year's Capitoline Yearbook, bring it and $10 to room 254.


SENIORS- November 15th will be a senior service day (the 9th - 11th grade will be doing a practice SAT test).  Seniors can volunteer, job shadow or visit colleges.  The permission forms will be in guidance, room 104, and must be signed and returned by November 9th in order for the senior day to count as activity.  Get your form, get it in!


Join in the fun at the Annual Dodgeball Tournament Thursday, November 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the gym.  Get your 6-8 person team together and sign up next week at lunch on Monday or Wednesday. The Booster’s representatives will be in the commons with the sign ups and they are also in the main office.  All team shirts and outfits must be approved by Mr. Connolley or Dr. Leardi. It’s $30 per team to sign up and if you win there are cash prizes!  


Attention seniors: The Skelton scholarship has been added to the scholarship database. This is an annual award where applications will be accepted each year for a renewable opportunity. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic achievement, and involvement. Scholarships due by March 1st. See Mrs. Lauer for details! 


CACC will have Parent Teacher Conferences November 8 from 4 - 8  p.m.  and November 9  from 8 - 11 a.m.


"Hey hey hey JSA! Are you interested in debate? If so, then JSA is the perfect place for you! Our next meeting is this Thursday in the library after school, and its $5 for anyone who wants to join. Everyone is welcome, and there will be snacks provided! This weeks topic: should students have all tests and no homework, or all homework and no tests? Come defend your side! Contact Ellie Thomson or Olivia Santos for more information." 


The SHS Photo Video club will be meeting this Wednesday, the 25th, right after school in the commons.


Remember fan bus and MONEY need to be turned in to the main office or Mr Connolley by Thursday.
