Good morning Springfield High! Today is Thursday, May 3, 2018.

Students the parking privilege at the Church across the street on Monroe has been revoked.  If you are used to parking there you will now have to find another place to park.  You may only park there if you have special permission.

Seniors, some of you still have outstanding fees and fines.  Please see Mr. Havener in the Library, Ms. Hurley in the Guidance Office and Ms. Madonna in the Main Office to see if you have any outstanding fees.  This can only be done before school, at lunch or after school.

Freshman, Sophomore and Juniors please make sure your lab fees get paid.  You may pay these in the Main Office to Ms. Madonna.  If you need to see if you have any outstanding lab fees, please come to the main office before school, during lunch or after school.

Jostens will deliver caps/gowns on Tuesday, May 8th at 8:30 am in the Commons.  This will also be the senior meeting day, you will receive honors night information, cap and gown dress code for graduation, clearing up fines etc…. this will take most of the a.m so periods 1-3.

PIZZA, PIZZA, PIZZA!!Today the Be A Senator Team will be selling hot, delicious Papa John's pizza for the final time of the school year!! Thank you for supporting Be A Senator Program this year. 

For Junior CEO Applicants-We have not received results for the CEO applications. As soon as Mr. Williams receives the results, he will personally inform you of your status. Results may come as late as Monday. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Williams.

Juniors - you should be receiving a flyer with information regarding the new Solar Energy Course 435 to be offered next school year. This is a course co-taught by a local Electrical Workers Union member. If you are interested in a career as an electrician with a focus on solar energy please see Mr. Williams for more information. There will be an informational meeting on May 14.

Are you ready for peach fuzz? Introducing the first annual peach fuzz, a guys vs. guys volleyball tournament in the gym on Friday, May 11th. Get your team of 6 and sign up for $18 per team. Safety forms can be found in the main office. Girls, be there to root on your guys. See you there!  Peach fuzz permission forms should be turned in to Mrs Devlin or Mrs. Kaisner.   Shirt forms can be picked up in the guidance office or from Mrs. Kaisner and should be turned in asap along with the permission forms.

Summer school registration is June 15th from 7:30 - 5:30 at SHS.  Registration forms are available in the guidance office.

For Junior Students-Are you interested in becoming a teacher? UIS is offering a Dual Credit teacher education class for Senior year. For more information, sign up in the Guidance Office or see Mr. Williams ASAP. Sign-ups are on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The Scholastic Bowl End of the Year Banquet will be Monday May 21st at the Pizza Ranch. Please RSVP to Coach Teichman.  All team members should see Drew or Aidan regarding senior gifts.

Free t-shirts for blood donors!!!!  Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tue., May 15, 8:30am-2 pm, in the Bloodmobile outside of the Commons. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch-in the Commons, and before school or after school-in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Fri. May 11. Please sign-up ASAP because once the form is filled, you will not be able to sign up. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the Bloodmobile at your convenience. Blood donations save lives!  Any questions-please see Mr. Williams.

Seniors it’s not too late to earn scholarship money for next year! The American Legion Otis B. Duncan, Post 809 Scholarship and the William J. Baldon scholarship have been added to the scholarship database. See Mrs. Lauer or the scholarship database for applications! 

Parents/Students if you order your graduation cake from Meyer and would like to get 15% off please stop by the main office and pick up a coupon as there are a limited supply.

Seniors, please make sure you have your list of scholarship offers and amounts (note if it’s one time or renewable) ready to record onto the post secondary survey at the senior meeting on May 8th. Mrs. Lauer has to have this information for the end of year data and to display at Senior Recognition Night. Thank you! 

Calling all know-it-alls and whizes the class of 2019 is holding a trivia night Friday May 4 from 7-9 in the commons, so come test your knowledge. Tickets will be on sale during both lunch shifts Thursday and Friday for $5 or $7 at the door. See you there.

The SHS boys tennis team is having a Chipotle Fundraiser on Monday, May 7, from 4p-8p.  Fifty percent of the in-restaurant proceeds will be donated toward the team.

The SHS boys track team won their 10th straight city title last night. City champs were: Tyrone Treadwell in the triple jump and long jump, Matthew Abe-Bell in the 400, Grant Thompson in the pole vault, Will Formea in the 800 and 1600, Robert Williams in the 110 Hurdles and 300 Hurdles, Sam forness in the 3200 meter run and the 4x400 relay! 

Anyone interested in joining the volleyball team for next year, there will be a parent/player meeting in the Commons on May 21st at 6:00 pm.

The SHS Baseball Team played the game the right way and gave a great effort, but came up short in the end to a nice comeback by Southeast. Highlights included a solid pitching performance on the mound from Adam Passmore who threw 5 strong innings until the Spartans wore him down in the sixth. Ben Hartl and Rico Johnson contributed RBI doubles to the cause. Next up is the final week of City play against Lanphier next Tuesday and Wednesday.

Showchoir rehearsal has been cancelled for the rest of this week.  Please check the showchoir webpage about next week's rehearsal.


INSession Show Choir Auditions are open to all SHS students and incoming freshmen.  Auditions dates will be Wednesday, May 23rd from 3:30pm – 8:30pm; Thursday, May from 5:30pm - 8pm
in the commons area (please enter through commons area entrance).  Everyone will need to go through a vocal and dance audition .  We are looking for singers, dancers and actors of all kind. We are looking for strong singers and/or dancers; we are also looking for reliable, responsible and respectful members. This is drama/stress-free group where you can be yourself.
