Jostens will deliver caps/gowns tomorrow at 8:30 am in the Commons. This will also be the senior meeting day, you will receive honors night information, cap and gown dress code for graduation, clearing up fines etc…. this will take most of the a.m so periods 1-3.
Seniors, some of you still have outstanding fees and fines. Please see Mr. Havener in the Library, Ms. Hurley in the Guidance Office and Ms. Madonna in the Main Office to see if you have any outstanding fees. This can only be done before school, at lunch or after school.
Freshman, Sophomore and Juniors please make sure your lab fees get paid. You may pay these in the Main Office to Ms. Madonna. If you need to see if you have any outstanding lab fees, please come to the main office before school, during lunch or after school.
Students who have had 10 hours of practice with parents can sign up for summer driving by coming to room 128 at the beginning of their lunch hour today and tomorrow.
Juniors - you should be receiving a flyer with information regarding the new Solar Energy Course 435 to be offered next school year. This is a course co-taught by a local Electrical Workers Union member. If you are interested in a career as an electrician with a focus on solar energy please see Mr. Williams for more information. There will be an informational meeting on May 14.
Are you ready for peach fuzz? Introducing the first annual peach fuzz, a guys vs. guys volleyball tournament in the gym on Friday, May 11th. Get your team of 6 and sign up for $18 per team. Safety forms can be found in the main office. Girls, be there to root on your guys. See you there! Peach fuzz permission forms should be turned in to Mrs Devlin or Mrs. Kaisner. Peach fuzz shirt forms are available in Mrs. Kaisner’s room, the main office, and from Mrs. Devlin and the class of 2021 officers. The shirt forms need to be turned in to Mrs. Kaisner by today at noon. Permission forms and money are due by Wednesday. If your permission slip is not turned in with the team’s money, you will not be able to participate in the tournament.
Summer school registration is June 15th from 7:30 - 5:30 at SHS. Registration forms are available in the guidance office.
For Junior Students-Are you interested in becoming a teacher? UIS is offering a Dual Credit teacher education class for Senior year. For more information, sign up in the Guidance Office or see Mr. Williams ASAP. Sign-ups are on a first-come-first-serve basis.
The Scholastic Bowl End of the Year Banquet will be Monday May 21st at the Pizza Ranch. Please RSVP to Coach Teichman. All team members should see Drew or Aidan regarding senior gifts.
Free t-shirts for blood donors!!!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tue., May 15, 8:30am-2 pm, in the Bloodmobile outside of the Commons. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch-in the Commons, and before school or after school-in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Fri. May 11. Please sign-up ASAP because once the form is filled, you will not be able to sign up. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the Bloodmobile at your convenience. Seniors, please make sure you have your list of scholarship offers and amounts (note if it’s one time or renewable) ready to record onto the post secondary survey at the senior meeting tomorrow. Mrs. Lauer has to have this information for the end of year data and to display at Senior Recognition Night. Thank you!
Golden Laurel tickets are available to purchase in the main office. The cost is $12.50 per ticket. These may be bought before school, at lunch or after school.
The SHS boys tennis team is having a Chipotle Fundraiser from 4p-8p today. Fifty percent of the in-restaurant proceeds will be donated toward the team.
Anyone interested in joining the volleyball team for next year, there will be a parent/player meeting in the Commons on May 21st at 6:00 pm.
Show your SHS spirit and join the cheerleaders on Sat May 19 to encourage the runners and walkers for the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure as they race past the High School and Football Field. Ask Mrs Dearing in Room 222 for Details.
The SHS softball team won three games over the weekend in route to their 15th win of the season. The ladies finish of the city series tomorrow and Wednesday against Lanphier. Tomorrow's game is at 4:15 at SHG. Keep it going girls!
Need service hours for school projects or community service - junior volunteers are needed for Lincoln Land Championship. Junior volunteers aged 14-18 can register for free at web.com and use the code JUNIOR2018. You will act as Standard Bearers during the tournament. You will get inside-the-ropes experience with leading Web.com Tour players. You will be on the greens with pro golfers from around the world. You might be in photos and video of final play. The choir concert is Friday, May 18th at 7pm at SHS.
The SHS boys track team finished in 8th place out of 27 teams at Saturday’s Collinsville invite. Robert Williams won the 300 hurdles and placed 2nd in the 110 hurdles. Tyrone Treadwell placed 3rd in the 110 Hurdles, and Sam Forness placed 4th in the 3200 meter run to lead SHS. The boys next compete on Tuesday at the Lanphier Fresh Soph Open and then Friday at the CS8 meet hosted by Lanphier.
The Springfield High School Varsity Boys Tennis Team competed in the Eugene Hill Tournament in Bloomington-Normal over the weekend. In doubles, Shaul Latif/Raj Sinha completed an impressive run to finish third while Matu Kristos/David Jiang finished fifth. In singles competition, Zeke Cross persevered and placed second with Eric Martin achieving a fourth place finish. Raj Sinha, Shaul Latif and David Jiang each placed fifth in their respective singles brackets.
INSession Show Choir Auditions are open to all SHS students and incoming freshmen. Auditions dates will be Wednesday, May 23rd from 3:30pm – 8:30pm; Thursday, May from 5:30pm - 8pm in the commons area (please enter through commons area entrance). Everyone will need to go through a vocal and dance audition . We are looking for singers, dancers and actors of all kind. We are looking for strong singers and/or dancers; we are also looking for reliable, responsible and respectful members. This is drama/stress-free group where you can be yourself.
