Good morning Springfield High! Today is Monday, September 17, 2018

Ninth grade students who are interested in applying for the P4 physicians preparatory pipeline program need to stop by the guidance office to pick the application information sheet.   The application deadline is September 25th.

Senior Photo Information - Seniors and early graduates are required to have their official picture taken by Grussenmeyer’s Photography.  The photo must be taken by December 15, 2018.  Grussenmeyer’s is located at 41 Pinehurst drive, 787-6688 and requires a $15 sitting fee with no pressure to make additional purchases.  This year, we encourage all seniors to have their portrait taken at school.  Grussenmeyer’s will be at SHS for senior pictures on:

Wednesday, September 19th from 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm.  You may have to call 494-7961 after 4:00 pm to be admitted to the building.
Friday, September 21st from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (no school for students that day)
Friday, October 26th from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (no school for students that day)

Seniors may also call Grussenmeyer’s at 787-6688 to arrange custom sittings or another time and date that works with their schedule.

Any junior or senior interested in being a High School Student Poll Worker for election day, please see Mr. Kyes in the guidance office for an application. 

Parents - For a small fee, you can pay lab/course fees, student service fees and meal tickets on-line.

Any junior or senior interested in joining the Mayor's Youth Council, please see Mr. Kyes in the guidance office for an application. 

For those of you interested in joining SHS’s Feminist Club, please join us in Ms. Moon’s room, room 364, on Thursday, Sept. 20th, right after school until 4:00.  We have lively discussions and are involved in our community!  All are welcome!!  

Seniors, a great opportunity is coming to SHS tomorrow from 6-7 pm members from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will be here to go over everything FAFSA. The meeting will be held in the cafeteria and families are encouraged to come. Any questions, see Mr. Kramer.

FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!!  Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center tomorrow from 8:30 am-2 pm, in the Auditorium. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form.  Teachers & Staff you can report to the Auditorium at your convenience. Blood donations SAVE LIVES!  Any questions-please see Mr. Williams.  Reminder, if you are 16 years old, please remember to take your parent consent form with you to the Auditorium.

The 2018-2019 Capitoline Yearbook is on sale now in room 254 at a cost of $60 each.  To order yours, bring your check, money order or cash to room 254.  In January, the cost for each will be $70.  Seniors the cost to put your baby pictures in this year's yearbook is $10.  Bring your pictures and the $10 fees to room 254.   Also, Senior Superlatives' Nomination Forms are due to Tayli Shekleton or Mrs. Eslahi by October 1.

Homecoming Court voting will be taking place this week in the Commons during both lunch shifts. Junior/Senior voting will be on today and tomorrow. Freshman/Sophomore voting will be Wednesday and Thursday. Make sure you go write in your nominees! Homecoming is on the 29th!

Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for high school mentors! Being a mentor will allow you to make a difference in the life of a child, gain service hours, and build your resume. You get to spend one hour a week after school with a child you are matched with at their school. No experience is necessary. See Kramer for more information.

The cross country team competed in the Peoria Notre Dame invite at Detweiller Park on Saturday. The varsity girls team finished 51 out of 64 teams. Ruth Edwards was the top placer for SHS. Aurora Barnes was the top placer for SHS in girls F/S race. Varsha Iyer was the top placer for SHS in girls JV race.  The boys varsity team finished 22nd out of 64 teams. Will Formea was a medalists for SHS. The boys F/S team finished 20th out of 54 teams. Luke Flesner was the top finisher for SHS. Ankeith Guntupalli was the top placer for SHS in boys JV race.

Art Club will meet Thursday from 3:30-4:30 in room 233. Please stop by and talk to Mrs. Pianezza in room 320 if you would like to join but cannot attend this week. 

The Girls Golf team finished Friday's Brookhill Shootout in Rantoul with their best team score in more than 4 years. Their total of 345 was good enough for 4th place. Senior Sofia Baptist had the her best round ever, firing a 3 over par 75 and finishing 3rd individually. Junior Kylie Fair also finished in the top 10. Her 84 was good enough for 7th. Great job girls.

Interested in learning camera basics and getting involved in the SHS Photo Video Club? We will be holding our second workshop this Wednesday, the 19th, right after school in the commons. Anyone is welcome!
