Good morning Springfield High! Today is Monday, October 22, 2018

On Wednesday we will be Mock testing for the SAT:  

Seniors will be out of the building and they must have their signed yellow parent permission form turned in before the end of today.  No exceptions.  Seniors pick up your senior service day permission form in the guidance office.  9th, 10th, and 11th grade will be mock testing on Wednesday. 

Juniors will not attend CACC on Wednesday.  Seniors have the option of attending CACC on Wednesday.  

Juniors will take the Mock SAT and be allowed to leave school after testing - this will be around 1:00 p.m.  Juniors - get that pink form in after your parent signs off if you want to leave after testing.  You must turn in the pink form end of day tomorrow.  Juniors may get lunch and may stay for the day if they choose.  Juniors should bring a calculator and pencils.

Freshmen and Sophomores will take the Mock PSAT and are expected to stay at school until 2:17 p.m. dismissal.  Freshmen and Sophomores should bring a calculator and pencils.

CACC students are expected to be in class at CACC on Friday, October 26th.  This is the Parent Teacher day for SHS, but CACC juniors and seniors must still attend their classes there that day.

Senior Photo Information - Seniors and early graduates are required to have their official picture taken by Grussenmeyer’s Photography.  The photo must be taken by December 15th.  Grussenmeyer’s is located at 41 Pinehurst drive, 787-6688 and requires a $15 sitting fee with no pressure to make additional purchases.  This year, we encourage all seniors to have their portrait taken at school.  Grussenmeyer’s will be at SHS for senior pictures on Friday, October 26th from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (no school for students that day) in the Auditorium.  Seniors may also call Grussenmeyer’s at 787-6688 to arrange custom sittings or another time and date that works with their schedule.

Yearbooks are now on sale at $60 a copy; in January, the cost is $70.  Order yours now in room 254.

If you bought the 2017-2018 Capitoline Yearbook, come pick up your  Spring Supplement in room 254.

There will be a JSA meeting in room 314 Wednesday. All are welcome! 

TUTORING has started!!  If you need help, come to room 160 for tutoring on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30.  Mrs. Mitchell, Mr. Dyer, Mr. Read and Grant Martin will be available for help. 

Spanish club members, the deadline for the t-shirt contest is November 1st, so turn in your designs ASAP.  You can turn it into Mr Reichert’s room.

Attention boys basketball players interested in trying out for the team this season, there will be an informational meeting today after school in the commons.  The meeting should only take about 15 minutes. You need to be there to sign up and get the basketball tryout information. In the event you are unable to make it, you must sign see Coach Crum in room 228 or you will not be able to tryout. Also, you must have a current physical on file with the school in order to tryout. No exceptions. 

Football Playoff Shirt order forms are here. There is a wide variety of items to order including cotton shirts, dry-fit shirts, both short and long sleeve, and hoodies. We also have women sizes available in Under Armor designs. All sizes are available for adults in Small through 3XL and there are even youth sizes available for small children. Order forms can be picked up in the main office, from Coach Gully, Coach Hebb, or Ms. Negele. Forms are due by end of today and shirts should be back by next Friday before the 1st round playoff game.

Sign up for the 7th Annual SHS Booster Club Dodgeball Tournament.  The tournament will be held Thursday, November 1st at 7 pm in the SHS Gymnasium.  There will be cash prizes for 1st place and best team costume. All costumes must follow SHS dress code guidelines.  Registration forms are available in the main office.  There is a $30 entry that must be submitted with the registration form and player waiver.  All forms are due back to the booster’s mailbox in the main office no later than October 31st at 3:30 pm. There will be no new teams accepted on the day of the tournament.  All players must be SHS students.

Attention girl basketball players not involved in a fall sport: There will be a short informational meeting regarding tryouts today right after school in room 264. Any questions, see Coach Scheffler.

Attention All Senators:  Would you like to win 2 prom tickets?  Donate any amount to the United Way from now until November 2.  All donations of $5 or more enters you into a prize drawing for 2 FREE prom tickets. Donations will be accepted in the commons during lunch, or see Mrs. Williams.  Thanks in advance for your support and good luck!

The cross country team competed in the regional meet on Saturday at Taylorville.  The girls team finished second in the team standings and advance to the sectional meet next Saturday.  Ruth Edwards was the top finisher for SHS.  The boys team finished first in the team standings and advance to the sectional meet next Saturday.  Kyle Boughter was the top finisher for SHS.  Congratulations!!

The comeback is complete and your varsity football team has qualified for the playoffs after winning 5 of their last 6 football games. They will travel to the Chicago area to play Shepard High School from Palos Heights at 1:30 on Saturday. Reminder you can purchase playoff gear up until 3:30 today if you can get the form back to Coach Gully, Coach Hebb, or Ms. Negele. All orders should be back by Friday in time for the game on Saturday. 

No art club this week due to Parent Teacher conferences.

The boys soccer team won the Rochester Regional Championship with a 1-0 victory over Rochester. Luke Owsley scored for the Senators and Collin Taylor recorded the shut-out, but again was a total team effort congratulations boys.
