Students, please remember that the Boy’s Basketball City Tournament is tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday at the BOS Center is a school function and all behavior guidelines will be enforced at all times during the City Tournament. Any inappropriate behavior displayed at the City Tournament will result in consequences that will be enforced by the administration of Springfield High School. This includes behavior inside the BOS Center, as well as adjacent to the facility. See the SHS web site for expectations.
This week is CITY WEEK. Dress in the theme of the day - Wednesday - Wild Wild West (cowboys only - no play weapons of any kind allowed). Remember during the school day, all costumes and dress must be school appropriate. No excessive skin or any outfits that will disrupt the teaching and learning environment. See Dr. Leardi with any questions. The themes are on the SHS website - we will have lunchtime contests so everybody dress up and get psyched up for CITY!!

City Tournament tickets are CASH ONLY and will cost $5 each when purchased at the school and $6 each when purchased at the BOS Center. Tickets may be purchased in the Main Office today until 3:45 and tomorrow 8:00 am–12:30 pm for Wednesday game only and 8:00 am–3:45 pm for Thursday and Friday games; Thursday 8:00 am–12:30 pm for Thursday game only and 8:00 am–3:45 pm for Friday's game and Friday 8:00 am-12:30 pm. After 12:30 pm on Friday all tickets must be purchased at the BOS Center.
City Tournament Schedule is as follows: Wednesday, January 16th at 6:00 pm – Springfield vs. Sacred Heart-Griffin; 7:30 pm - Lanphier vs. Southeast; Thursday, January 17th at 6:00 pm – Lanphier vs. Sacred Heart-Griffin; 7:30 pm – Springfield vs. Southeast; Friday, January 18th 6:00 pm –Springfield vs. Lanphier; 7:30 pm – Sacred Heart-Griffin vs. Southeast.
Unity Day 2019 is almost here! Come join students from the city’s high schools on Friday from 3:45 - 5:15 p.m. before the evening’s first game of City Tourney for activities, games, food and fun to benefit Inner City Mission and Kidzeum. Registration for this free event hosted by the Superintendent’s Student Roundtable will take place in the cafeteria during lunch tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center today 8:30 am-2:00 pm, in the Auditorium. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. Teachers & Staff can report to the Auditorium at your convenience. Blood donations SAVE LIVES! Any questions, please see Mr. Williams.
If you are thinking about signing up for CACC next year, consider going to the CACC Open House on January 24th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Meet teachers, tour the building and learn about the different programs available for juniors and seniors. Remember, you must have good attendance and be on track for graduation to sign up for CACC. The CACC building is located at 2201 Toronto Road, Springfield, IL.
The sophomore class is selling SHS apparel. You can get an order form from a class officer, Sophie Gebhart, David Jiang, Sunni Rogers, Alfred Hoffman or Mrs. Devlin outside room 121. Forms are due to Mrs. Devlin by Friday.
Groups, Clubs and Organizations will get their pictures taken on January 29th in the Auditorium. If you have a new group, club or organization, please let me—Mrs. Eslahi—know, so that she can add them to the picture schedule.
Here we go again!! The auditions for Mamma Mia!! will be held today in the Auditorium from 4:00-8:00. Sign-ups are available by going to Mr. Schoppenhorst’s school webpage or on SHS’s front page. The show will be March 22nd, 23rd and 24th. Music is available outside of Mrs. Pinter’s room. Each audition will take approximately an hour. You can sign up for a time of your choosing. If all the slots are taken, just walk in, we will be able to fit you in somewhere. Come prepared with a piece of music showcasing your singing ability and we will work through a little bit of a dance. If you cannot make it today please let Mr. Schoppenhorst know and we will work some other time for an audition. If you have what you think are too many conflicts, come and talk to Mr. Schoppenhorst. We will see how it works out. Most rehearsals will be 3:30-6:30 or 5:00-8:00. Hope to see you there!!
Juniors and Seniors if you qualify for National Honor Society by grades, your name will be on the list outside Rooms 326, 356, the Library, or the Main Office. You need to see Mr. Kramer in Room 326 in the morning, or 153 A, in the afternoon, to get information for applying. Applications will be due by February 11th.
Do you love poetry, public speaking or both? If yes, then Poetry Out Loud is for you. There will be an informational meeting after school today in Mrs. Eaton’s room 366. If you are interested, but can not attend stop by for details.
Track and field practice will begin Tuesday, January 22nd for all boys and girls not involved in a winter sport. All athletes must have a current physical, athletic card and team rules sheet turned in to practice. See Coach Cotner with any questions!
