This month we will be "Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Aretha Franklin." The program will be on Friday. The "Trivia Contest" questions will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In order to win this contest, first period classes will have ten minutes to bring their correct answers to room 254 or to place them in Mrs. Eslahi's mailbox. Students will also have the opportunity to win prizes in the essay and poster contests; see Mrs. Eslahi for details.
Capitoline Yearbooks are still on sale at $70 a copy. If you don't have the full amount, you can pay a portion to secure a yearbook for you. Make your check or money order out to Springfield High School or bring your cash to room 254.
Congratulations to the Varsity Scholastic Bowl team for another first place finish!! Saturday was the 36th Annual Illinois Masonic Academic Bowl Sectional. Along with a $400 cash prize, the team advances to the State competition of the Illinois Masonic Masonic Academic Bowl in Bloomington in two weeks. Best of luck to the team as they travel Saturday to Champaign for the National Academic Quizbowl Tournament State tournament. Please put March 4th on your calendars to come support the Scholastic Bowl team right here at SHS for Regionals!
There will be a mandatory meeting for girls interested in trying out for softball, this Thursday right after school in room 116. See Coach Koger with questions.
The Lady Senator basketball team lost 47 to 46 in the regional championship game against O’Fallon last Friday. SHS was led in scoring by Abby Ratsch with 16 points and Maya Fetter with 12. SHS finished the season with a 27 and 6 record.
Any students interested in joining the boys tennis team should plan to attend a brief informational meeting after school on Thursday at 3:30 pm in the Old Gym.
IN Session showchoir continues to improve in competition, as they competed at the 4th Annual Naperville North High School Clash of the Sequins showchoir competition! They received 2nd Runner-up! Congratulations to Brennan Boyer for receiving Best Performer in a Show! Their next competition will be this Saturday, when they travel to Sullivan High school's Sullivan Singers' Invitational!
Congratulations to Jacquez Stewart for taking 3rd place last Saturday at the IHSA State Tournament for the 138 weight class devision. Danny and Jessie Stewart also wrestled tough and will be looking to return to the state tournament next year to get on the podium as well. Great season wrestlers!
On Wednesday, March 6th from 5:00-7:30 come to Springfield High Commons and get a take out Olive Garden dinner. Ticket costs are $10 each and are available in Main Office or you may call or text (217) 652-2545. Ticket includes salad, choice of pasta, sauce and choice of meat. All proceeds benefit Springfield High School after prom.
