This month we will be "Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Aretha Franklin." The program will be tomorrow The "Trivia Contest" questions will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In order to win this contest, first period classes will have ten minutes to bring their correct answers to room 254 or to place them in Mrs. Eslahi's mailbox. Students will also have the opportunity to win prizes in the essay and poster contests; see Mrs. Eslahi for details.
Capitoline Yearbooks are still on sale at $70 a copy. If you don't have the full amount, you can pay a portion to secure a yearbook for you. Make your check or money order out to Springfield High School or bring your cash to room 254.
There will be a mandatory meeting for girls interested in trying out for softball today right after school in room 116. See Coach Koger with questions.
Any students interested in joining the boys tennis team should plan to attend a brief informational meeting after school today at 3:30 pm in the Old Gym.
On Wednesday, March 6th from 5:00-7:30 come to Springfield High Commons and get a take out Olive Garden dinner. Ticket costs are $10 each and are available in Main Office or you may call or text (217) 652-2545. Ticket includes salad, choice of pasta, sauce and choice of meat. All proceeds benefit Springfield High School after prom.

Attention Baseball Players- The tryout and practice schedule for baseball can be picked up in room 168, Miss Johnson's room, this week during passing periods. Be sure to get one this week, as tryouts and practice begin next week.
Attention sophomores: Mrs. Lauer will be taking up to 36 students on a field trip to Lincoln Land Community College on March 12th from 12-2pm to attend the ROCTE Career Day Event. Students will attend a Career Expo for trade professions. If you have signed up for CACC for the 2019-2020 school year, this would be an ideal opportunity for you to attend. The first 36 to sign up in the guidance office will be eligible to attend, pending all passing grades. Any questions, see Mrs. Lauer.
Congratulations to the freshman boys basketball team for their win over Lincoln High School and a 3rd place finish at the Lincoln Tournament.
If you are attending the All-City Choir rehearsal this morning, you will need to stop in the choir room for your music before leaving! The bus will be here at 9:15am to take you to Southeast. After rehearsal, you will eat on B Lunch.
The final Public Information Session for Springfield Area high school students interested in applying for the Sister Cities Association of Springfield (SCAS) student exchange in Ashikaga, Japan will be held on Monday, February 25. The session will be at 7:00 PM in the Board Room of the Springfield District 186 Administrative Center, 1900 West Monroe Street, Springfield, IL 62704 (next to Grant Middle School, across from Fairhills Mall). Interested students and their parents are encouraged to attend one of the sessions, if possible. Applications for the June 14-24, 2019 delegation will be available at the sessions. Applications are open to all Springfield-area high school students (current 8th graders thru current high school seniors). February 28, 2019 is the first application deadline. Springfield has been a Sister City to Ashikaga, Japan since 1990 and has been sponsoring student exchanges for over 25 years. The 11-day exchange is a total immersion experience, including living with a Japanese family and attending school. Participation includes three (3) credit hours at LLCC.
