Good morning Springfield High! Today is Monday, February 25, 2019

Students parking lot checks have started.  You may be towed if you are in violation.  Remember if you are towed the tow bill will be your responsibility.  Make sure that your parking permit is in the lower left hand corner of the front.

Capitoline Yearbooks are still on sale at $70 a copy.  If you don't have the full amount, you can pay a portion to secure a yearbook for you.  Make your check or money order out to Springfield High School or bring your cash to room 254.

On Wednesday, March 6th from 5:00-7:30 come to Springfield High Commons and get a take out Olive Garden dinner.  Ticket costs are $10 each and are available in Main Office or you may call or text (217) 652-2545.  Ticket includes salad, choice of pasta, sauce and choice of meat.  All proceeds benefit Springfield High School after prom.  

Attention sophomores: Mrs. Lauer will be taking up to 36 students on a field trip to Lincoln Land Community College on March 12th from 12-2pm to attend the ROCTE Career Day Event. Students will attend a Career Expo for trade professions. If you have signed up for CACC for the 2019-2020 school year, this would be an ideal opportunity for you to attend. The first 36 to sign up in the guidance office will be eligible to attend, pending all passing grades. Any questions, see Mrs. Lauer. 

The Senator football team will be taking pre orders for Krispy Kreme donuts for next Friday morning.. Mr. Graham will have the order form in his room #266.  $10 for a box of 12 sweet treats.  Plan ahead and order some for yourself, your club or your favorite teacher.....today! 

Congratulations to the IN Session showchoir for taking home 2nd Runner-up in the Tier II Division at the Sullivan Singers' Invitational!!

The boys track and field team opened their season at the Normal West Indoor Invite on saturday. Medalists for SHS were: Matthew Abe-Bell, 5th in the 400; Qa’Ron Hawkins, 3rd in the triple jump; and Robert Williams placed in the 60 meter hurdles breaking his own school record! Great way to start the season. They boys next compete at the Illinois College Indoor Invite in Jacksonville on Friday evening. 

Congratulations to the Math Department! On Friday, the Be A Senator Team rewarded first hour Math classes for being on time to class. A total of 177 students were on time and ready to learn! Awesome job! Thank you Math teachers!  Remember to be on time, every time and you never know when Be A Senator will be in your class!!

Be A Senator will be sponsoring a Chick Fil-A Night this THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 28 from 4:30-7:30 at the White Oaks Chick Fil-A location. Please see a Be A Senator team member or Mr. Kyes for a paper flyer or a digital flyer. The money raised will go towards the SHLotto redemption cart and Quarterly Acknowledgments! Thank you for supporting Be A Senator!!

The final Public Information Session for Springfield Area high school students interested in applying for the Sister Cities Association of Springfield (SCAS) student exchange in Ashikaga, Japan will be held on Monday, February 25. The session will be at 7:00 PM in the Board Room of the Springfield District 186 Administrative Center, 1900 West Monroe Street, Springfield, IL 62704 (next to Grant Middle School, across from Fairhills Mall).  Interested students and their parents are encouraged to attend one of the sessions, if possible. Applications for the June 14-24, 2019 delegation will be available at the sessions.  Applications are open to all Springfield-area high school students (current 8th graders thru current high school seniors). February 28, 2019 is the first application deadline.  Springfield has been a Sister City to Ashikaga, Japan since 1990 and has been sponsoring student exchanges for over  25 years. The 11-day exchange is a total immersion experience, including living with a Japanese family and attending school.
