There are three ways to access the SHS athletic schedules and information. On the SHS page located on the right hand side there is a blurb titled Athletic Schedules and Information click on this and it will take your there; you may also go to the athletic page and click on the sentence titled Athletic Schedules and Information; or your may go the following link https://springfieldhighschoolil.bigteams.com.
Signup is now available for the October 16th PSAT/NMSQT which is the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The due date to sign up is September 13th. Please sign up in the Guidance Office if you are interested. The cost of this test is $18.
The homecoming dance is September 21st at SHS. It’s going to be awesome. If you are bringing a guest from another school, you must get the blue guest form from the guidance office and have all information filled out correctly. ALL GUESTS MUST BRING A PHOTO ID WITH THEM.
If you are thinking about taking the October Saturday SAT, and you might be eligible for a fee waiver, please sign up ASAP with Mr. Kramer.

The Illinois Department of Transportation has been helping students explore the different aspects of engineering by having a“First Nighter” scheduled for Wednesday – September 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 at the IDOT Central Office – 2300 South Dirksen Parkway in Springfield. It will be an opportunity for students, their parents, and teaching professionals to ask questions and for the students to sign up for the Engineering Exploring Program. The participation fee for new Explorers is $60.00 (payable September 18th), which will cover registration fees and the Engineering Explorers Post 6 T-shirt. See Leardi if you have questions.
Rochester High is hosting a STEM fair Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. This event is free for families and showcases STEM opportunities and features drones, robots, environmental science and computer programming. To register, search RochesterSTEMFair on google or Facebook.

Calling all SHS actors and actresses! Fall Play auditions are quickly approaching. Auditions for this year’s show, The Outsiders, will be held on September 16th in the SHS auditorium after school. The show will be November 22-24. Please prepare a 30 second monologue and be ready to possibly do a cold read. Make sure to sign up on Mrs. Gerdes’s or Mrs. Eaton’s webpage! Wanting to work on your acting techniques? Come to the next drama club meeting which will be held today in Ms. Eaton’s room, #366. We will be working on characterization with an appearance of Illinois College professor Aasne Daniels! Snacks will be provided and everyone is welcome!
Boys basketball open gym will start today. Pick up a schedule outside Coach Crum’s room , which is room 228.
Students who have parking spots, make sure your permit is handing on your review mirror. Parking checks will be starting and if this is not located there, you will be towed.
The cross country team competed in the Granite City invite on Saturday. The girl's varsity team finished 12th out of 24 teams. Lucy Souva was the top finisher for SHS. Maddie Kim was the top finisher for SHS in girl's junior varsity race. Sam Forness was the top finisher for SHS in boy's varsity race. The boys f/s team finished 2nd out of 18 teams. Nick Hannig was the top finisher for SHS. Kyle Boughter was top finisher for SHS in boys open race.
Today is the first meeting of Prehealth club! We will be meeting after school until 4:00 in Miss Stash's room, 521, with a cardiologist from Prairie Cardiovascular. Hope to see you there!
Attention SHS! This is the last week to join German Club. Please print out the German Club form located on the German Club website, fill it out and turn it in to Herrn Koeppel in room 250 by Friday, September 13. Please do not forget to bring your membership fee of $5.

Sophomore Sooyun Pippin won the 200 IM and the 100 Fly Saturday in a dual meet against Peoria Richwoods. Also winning her event Saturday was junior Kylie McMillan in the 100 breast. The 200 Medley relay of Kayleigh Minder, Kylie, Molly Tolsdorf and Grace Anders placed second. Molly, Grace, Kylie and Sooyun were out touched in the 200 free relay, again placing second. They’d love to see their fans come to the Capital Classic Invitational this weekend! Diving competition with Falyn Long and Linden Neposchlan starts at 9 AM and Swimming starts at 1 PM at Eisenhower Pool.
Junior & Senior girls - if you are playing in the Powder Puff football game this Sunday at 11:00 a.m., you must have your parent permission form turned into the main office by 3:30 on Friday, September 13th. No one will be allowed on the field without proper paperwork for the Powder Puff.

Wrestling preseason will begin this week. The Joe Bee wrestling room will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays immediately after school until 5pm.
