Good morning Springfield High! Today is January 30, 2020

In honor of upcoming Black History Month, SHS is sponsoring a writing contest titled “The Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.” The winning prize is $100. All essays are due to Mrs. Eaton by February 14th.  There is no word minimum or limit, so submit an essay and win $100!!

Hey Everybody!!  “Want to win a pack of gift cards or coupons? Enter your name into Pen In A Box Clubs drawing at lunch Wed. and Fri. every week at lunch by donating just a $1! The 3 winners will be announced at the boys basketball game Feb 28th so be there!”

Everyone is welcome to come to the College Admissions and Financial Aid Seminar at UIS on Tuesday, February 4 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Representative Mike Murphy is hosting this free seminar to discuss college financing and how resources works. The seminar is focused on general college information, not just for UIS. The Seminar will take place in the Student Union Building, 2nd Floor.  Pick up a flyer on the main office counter anytime!

All Poetry Out Loud performers need to stop by Mrs. Eaton’s room to sign up for a performance time on Friday.

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and what better way to show that special someone you care by giving them a flower. Carnations will be sold before school and during both lunch shifts in the Commons. Cost is only $1.00. Flowers will be delivered Feb 14th during 3rd hour.

If you are interested in being on yearbook staff next year, applications are now available. See Ms. Moon in 364 if you are interested in being a part of SHS history!

Join us at Chipotle on February 15th from 4:00-8:00 pm!! Shrek, the SHS Spring Musical, is sponsoring a fundraiser and hopes to see everyone there. Get a burrito and support Shrek!

SHS hockey fans!!  Saturday the team will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser at the Applebee's restaurant on S. Dirksen Pkwy. Players will be serving from 8:00am-10:00am.  Tickets at the door are $5.00 per person and includes a pancake breakfast, bacon and a drink. Lets Go Solons!

How about a nice warm and yummy breakfast enjoying it with your family or friends.  Join us at a Flapjack Fundraiser Saturday, February 22, 8-10 am at the Applebee's, 3335 S. Veterans Pkwy.  Enjoy pancakes, bacon and a drink for only $5.  Get your tickets now from any GAPP (German American Partnership Program) student.  All proceeds go towards the GAPP exchange to Ingolstadt, Germany, this June.

Are you one of those people who didn’t purchase a yearbook in time? You are in luck. Out of the kindness of her heart, Ms. Moon purchased 50 extra books!! It’s first come first serve. You can still go online to purchase at www.yearbookforever.com or see Ms. Moon in 364 with $80 cash or check, but only until we get to the magic number 50!! After that, there are no more yearbooks to be bought.  Period!!

Group Picture Day will be Thursday Feb. 6!!!  Schedules will be hung around the school soon!

Feminist Club today right after school in Ms. Moon’s room!! Current members and brand new members welcome!!!!!!  We hope to see you there! We have lots to discuss!

Any boys that are interested in playing tennis this spring there will be a meeting after school on Thursday, February 6th in the Auditorium.

Juniors and Seniors who are eligible to apply for National Honor Society are posted on a list outside 326, 356, 153A, the Main Office, and the Library. If you are on that list and would like to apply, see Mr. Kramer ASAP. Final applications are due Tuesday, February 18th. Any questions, please see Mr. Kramer.

Sacred Heart Convent Food Service is currently hiring. If you are interested see Mrs. Devlin for information or apply in person at 1237 W Monroe St.

If you left a bag at the Unity Day event on Saturday down at the convention center, they found it! Let Leardi know if it’s yours.
