Good morning Springfield High! Today is February 10, 2020

On Wednesday Jostens will give a presentation to the Sophomores during first hour in the Auditorium. Teachers who have sophomore classes during first hour should accompany their students to the auditorium.

In honor of upcoming Black History Month, SHS is sponsoring a writing contest titled “The Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.” The winning prize is $100. All essays are due to Mrs. Eaton by February 14th.  There is no word minimum or limit, so submit an essay and win $100!!

Hey Everybody!!  “Want to win a pack of gift cards or coupons? Enter your name into Pen In A Box Clubs drawing at lunch Wed. and Fri. every week at lunch by donating just a $1! The 3 winners will be announced at the boys basketball game Feb 28th so be there!”

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and what better way to show that special someone you care by giving them a flower. Carnations will be sold before school and during both lunch shifts in the Commons. Cost is only $1.00. Flowers will be delivered Friday during 3rd hour.

Join us at Chipotle on Saturday from 4:00-8:00 pm!! Shrek, the SHS Spring Musical, is sponsoring a fundraiser and hopes to see everyone there. Get a burrito and support Shrek!

How about a nice warm and yummy breakfast enjoying it with your family or friends.  Join us at a Flapjack Fundraiser Saturday, February 22, 8-10 am at the Applebee's, 3335 S. Veterans Pkwy.  Enjoy pancakes, bacon and a drink for only $5.  Get your tickets now from any GAPP (German American Partnership Program) student.  All proceeds go towards the GAPP exchange to Ingolstadt, Germany, this June.

Attention current juniors, there will be an informational presentation about next year’s Sangamon CEO class on Tuesday, February 18th at 2:00pm in the library. If you are interested in learning more about the class, please sign up in the guidance office. Passes will be written for those interested in attending. Any questions, see Mrs. Lauer in guidance.

Be A Senator will be sponsoring a Chick Fil-A Night Wednesday from 4:30-7:30. Please see Mr. Kyes for a paper or digital copy of the flyer which you will need to present when ordering. The proceeds will go towards the Senator Cash cart and Quarterly Acknowledgments. Thank you for supporting Be A Senator!!

Congratulations on SHS Scholastic Bowl’s first place finish at the Palmyra tournament beating Williamsville. Aidan Fein also placed first in points per game. Great effort by all.

Thursday at 4:00 the Springfield Arts Council is hosting the regional Poetry Out Loud competition at the Hoagland. Come show your support for Joy Brown and Katie George and listen to some awesome poetry.

The Springfield High Wrestling team took 4th place at regionals last Saturday and had 6 wrestlers qualify for sectionals.  Leading the Senators as Individual regional champs was Armani Emery and Danny Stewart.  Taking 2nd was Jesse Stewart, and taking third place was Teddy Thornberry, Chris Macklin, and Kaeden Kinison. Alex Souva and Hunter Reid took 4th.  All of these wrestlers will look to qualify for the state tournament this Friday and Saturday at the Mascoutah Sectional.

The Sister Cities Association of Springfield (SCAS) is hosting two public information sessions for Springfield Area high school students interested in applying for a student exchange in Ashikaga, Japan. The first Public Information Session for will be held tonight, the second session is February 19th. The sessions will be at 7:00 PM in the Board Room of the Springfield District 186 Administrative Center, 1900 West Monroe Street, Springfield, IL 62704 (next to Grant Middle School, across from Fairhills Mall).
