Good morning Springfield High! Today is September 21, 2020

Attention Juniors!!! The Mayor’s Youth Council is looking for hard workers who care about the Springfield community and want to make a difference. If you are interested in joining please contact Mr. Robinson in the Guidance Office.  All applications should be submitted by Friday, September 25th.

New and Returning Superintendent’s Student Roundtable Members: The Roundtable will have its first meeting of the school year today at 2:45 p.m. on Zoom. The Roundtable is open to all 9th to 12th grade high school students interested in helping to strengthen unity between local high schools and the community. Students interested in joining the Roundtable are asked to complete a short application at  https://forms.gle/MFzTE85Xxw5MzGA37 by the end of the day this Friday, September 18 to ensure they will be sent the meeting invite prior to the meeting.

LLCC is sponsoring online FAFSA events for our high school seniors. Step by step presentations by LLCC’s Financial Aid Office on how to complete the FAFSA with opportunities to meet with Financial Aid representatives and Q/A at the conclusion of the presentation.  This presentation is recommended for High School Seniors/parents new to completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Come connect with other SHS students and share common experiences by attending a weekly Support Group. These will take place on Mondays and will be led by Mrs. AbuSaba and Mrs. Troppa via Zoom at 1:30 & 2:30.  The first one is Monday September 21st. The cross country team competed against Rochester, SHG, and Southeast on Saturday at Lincoln Park. The varsity girls team finished second behind SHG. Maddie Kim was the top placer for SHS finishing in 4th place with a time of 19:57.  The varsity boys team finished second behind Rochester by one point. Matthew Johnson was the top placer for SHS finishing in 2nd place with a time of 16:35.  In the boys JV race, JP Moore finished in first place for SHS with a time of 19:10.

Congratulations to the girl's tennis team on a hard fought 4th place at the Glenwod invite this past Saturday.  Special recognition goes out to Megan Becker on her first place finish in the #2 singles division!

Players interested in playing boys basketball, open gyms will be today, tomorrow, and Thursday, September 23rd from 7:15-8:15. Players must bring the parent Covid form which is located on the right side of the SHS website, must provide their own water, and must wear a mask for the entire time. Students must currently be enrolled at SHS to participate. Space is limited per state gathering requirements. Players must wait outside until they are let in.
