A reminder that picture retakes are today. Please allow students to get their pictures taken at the appropriate time and excuse them back to class.

Juniors and Seniors: There are only about 12 spots left on the college bus trip to SIU-Carbondale, Oct. 21. Get your signed permission slips in to Mrs. Povse in Guidance.

Anyone interested in helping kids with cancer, there will be a meeting Thursday after school in Mr. Goff’s room, room 522.
This is a reminder that students who receive a tardy detention have 24 hours to serve that detention. Which means he or she can serve the detention in room 120 after school that day, before or after school the next day or before school that next day.
Attention Senators - We will be having a competition between the classes through Thursday, 10/28. The class with fewest electronic (cell phones, iPods, etc.) and dress code referrals during those 2 weeks will win. The winning class (grade level) will have breakfast in homeroom in November. Please remember to act like a Senator!
Hey SHS...Springfield Idol is just around the corner. This is our annual talent show. Auditions to participate in the competition will be held in the choir room Thursday after school. There is a sign-up sheet on the choir room door. The actual competition will be on November 16. Outside judges will determine the winner and prizes will be awarded! Contact Ms. Elmore if you need more information!
For all students interested in Engineering, a great opportunity is around the corner. The Illinois Department of Transportation is again offering a Saturday Academy for interested Springfield Public School high school students. This year students will use the TRAC design and construction module, a hands-on program that teaches students how to use math and science to solve real world problems in transportation and civil engineering. The program begins on Sat. Nov 6th and runs every Sat except Nov 27th until Dec 11th at the IDOT building on Dirksen Parkway. Contact Mr. Crum for applications
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to the SHS library next week, Oct. 25-29. Hours are from 8:15 to 3:30. In addition the book fair will be open during parent/teacher conference hours. Five $10 gift certificates to use at the book fair will be given away. Ask your English teacher for an entry form.
Lewis University is sponsoring a free Aviation Career Conference on Sat., Nov. 6 from 9-1:00. This is for students who are interested in aviation business, safety and security, aviation maintenance, air traffic control or being a pilot. Register at www.lewisu.edu/aviation
German Club will be showing the movie “Lola Rennt” in room 250 on Thursday, October 21 right after school. Please see a German teacher to pick up the parent permission form. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
