For all students interested in Engineering, a great opportunity is around the corner. The Illinois Department of Transportation is again offering a Saturday Academy for interested Springfield Public School high school students. This year students will use the TRAC design and construction module, a hands-on program that teaches students how to use math and science to solve real world problems in transportation and civil engineering. The program begins on Sat. Nov 6th and runs every Sat except Nov 27th until Dec 11th at the IDOT building on Dirksen Parkway. Contact Mr. Crum for applications
Lewis University is sponsoring a free Aviation Career Conference on Sat., Nov. 6 from 9-1:00. This is for students who are interested in aviation business, safety and security, aviation maintenance, air traffic control or being a pilot. Register at www.lewisu.edu/aviation
Any National Honor Society Student who would like to earn service hours by working in the Be A Senator store should contact Mrs. Hays in room 152 to pick up an application.

SENIORS AND SENIOR PARENTS: The next in a series of financial aid meetings, "The Path to FAFSA" will be presented on Thurs., Nov. 18 at 6:30 in the Commons. This 45 minute presentation will help you to understand what happens when and after you file the FAFSA. The presenter is a representative from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.
Attention Spanish Club members: See a Spanish teacher today to order your Spanish Club t-shirt. Orders will be placed November 5th.
Spanish Club members! Permission slips for the November 6th wiener roast are available from the Spanish teachers. The permission slip and $2.00 fee must be returned to school by tomorrow
SENIORS INTERESTED IN EDUCATION: The Illinois PTA scholarship is now available. Graduating seniors preparing to enter education or education-related fields and who are in the upper 33% of the class may apply. Deadline is Feb. 15. See Mr. Crum or Mrs. Povse in Guidance for an application.
All JV Cross Country runners should turn in their clean uniform this week after school to Coach Devlin.
Are you ready for some Dodge Ball? Back by popular demand, the Booster Club will host its 2nd annual Dodge Ball Tournament on Wednesday, November 10th, at 6 PM in the SHS gymnasium. Registration and waiver forms will be available this week at a sign up table during lunch. Forms are also available on the website or in the main office. Cost is $30 per team. A team consists of 6 – 8 players. Deadline to sign up is November 8th.
Blood donations save lives. Our last blood drive we had 72 donors try, collected 64 units, and 37 first time donors! Not more than 48 hours after our last blood drive, Mrs. Fisher in the main office received 3 units of blood through two lifesaving transfusions. Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tuesday, Nov. 16, from 8:30am-2pm and receive a free t-shirt for donating. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch, before school, or after school in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Monday, Nov. 15. There will be a meeting after school on Thursday in Coach Reed’s room, room 128, for all prospective junior and senior boys interested in basketball, that are not participating in a fall sport.

“It’s all about doors & sardines!” Noises off! directed by Allison Martsch, come see what all the farce is about November 12th & 13th at 7 PM and the 14th at 1 PM in the Schnirring Auditorium right here at SHS. Tickets are $7 and $5 for students and seniors. Come to opening night to hear this Spring’s musical announced. Hope to see you there!
German Club will be having a meeting in room 250 right after school on Wednesday, November 3rd. We will be talking about t-shirts, advent calendars, and Christmas Party.

There will be a No Shave November meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) after school in Mr. Telger's room. You can pick up your pledge forms and get info on t-shirts we will be ordering soon.
The Cross Country team competed in the sectional meet on Saturday at Decatur. The girls team finished 2nd and qualified to the State Meet. Kirby Hale was the top placer for SHS. The boys team finished 1st and qualified to the State Meet. Michael Simon was the top placer for SHS.
