SENIORS HEADED TO UNIV. OF ILLINOIS, URBANA: The Lincolnland Illini Club is offering a $750 tuition scholarship essay contest. The 200 word essay is your interpretation of the phrase "Why U of I?" Applications available from Mrs. Povse. Deadline is May 11.

Mrs. Povse has added a new link under Guidance on the SHS website called "Special Programs". Check it out.

Juniors or Seniors interested in becoming teachers: The Project Midstate Student Support at the University of Illinois, Springfield is now accepting applicants to the program which assists students who want to teach in the Springfield or Decatur public schools. Financial help is available for students in this program. See Mrs. Povse for details and an application. Deadline is March 31.

SENIORS: As you receive your acceptances from colleges and universities please let Mr. Crum or Mrs. Povse know of any scholarships you have been awarded. We have a list started in Mrs. Povse's office. Later in the spring we will post this publicly so that all of our students may see how well you have done.

Senior Artists: The Illinois Heartland Decorative Artists Scholarships of $1000 and $500 are now available. 6-10 photos of artwork done during high school and a letter of recommendation from an art teacher. Postmark by April 30. See Mrs. Povse for application.

Seniors: The Springfield Civic Garden Club is offering a $1000 to a student pursuing a degree in an environmentally related field. Deadline is May 1. See Mrs. Povse for application.

Bradley University is offering summer speed reading programs for students to be held at the University of Illinois, Springfield. Contact information is on a flyer in the Guidance Office.

The Junior League of Springfield, Inc. is pleased to announce applications are being accepted for Outstanding Community Service Award now through 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011. The Junior League of Springfield, Inc. (JLS) would like to recognize one high school junior (female) who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to community service. We will recognize one winner from each of the area high schools. One winner will then be selected to win a $500 scholarship award. All completed applications should be mailed, emailed, faxed or dropped off by March 23, 2011 to:

New scholarships: Catholic female leaders, the DCCW scholarship is now available. Four $500 awards to girls who can show leadership in their parish, school and community.
African American males: The TaRonn Wright scholarship for those attending a Historically Black College or University.

SENIORS: Lincoln Land Community College is holding a Campus Visit Day on Sat., March 26 from 8:30-noon. Register at LLCC.edu or 786-2577. University of Illinois Springfield is holding its spring Preview Day on April 23rd from 10:00-2:00. Register online at UIS.edu and click on "Visit UIS".

Join the Environmental Club by Choosing to Reuse. The Environmental Club is selling reusable lunch totes from the company Thirty-One. Choose from three different sizes and many different patterns and colors. See a member of the Environmental Club or Ms. Vander Leest in Room 510. Remember---CHOOSE TO REUSE!!!

SHS Trivia Night is Friday, March 25, 2011. Win a share of $1,000 in prize money, to be awarded to your favorite SHS sport, club or organization. Doors open 6p ~ Trivia at 7PM. Up to 10 players, includes food, soda and fun! The cost is $150 per table. Registration sheets are available on the SHS website or pick up one in the main office.

Next year SHS will be offering classes in guitar and piano. Please see your guidance person if you are interested. If you have any questions please talk to Ms. Elmore or Mrs. Goldberg.

ATTENTION ALL SHS STUDENTS and STAFF: Be a Senator has a great opportunity for raising money for Springfield High. For every yellow cap we collect from PEPSI products, we receive 5 CENTS. We need your help. Please place all YELLOW CAPS in the white Pepsi barrels in the commons. We will be collecting the caps until April 30. Thanks for your help!

Chess Club will meet Today after school in room 222.

You won’t be in Kansas anymore when you come to the SHS production of “The Wiz”, April 1 and 2 and 7:30 p.m. and April 3 at 2:00 p.m. in Schnirring Auditorium. Tickets are only $5 for students and $8 for adults and are on sale now in the main office. Ease on down the road and get your tickets today. And in other news... please be aware that a flying monkey is loose in the building. If you see it, please alert a nearby adult.

Class of 2014-A table will be set up IN THE COMMONS for returning the t-shirt and sweatpants forms until Friday during both lunch shifts. Forms may also be turned in to Mrs. Yoggerst's mailbox or Room 169 (Student Support
Office). All forms must be turned in by Friday, the 25th.

Hey Hey JSA! We are having a meeting on Wednesday. Come for food and fun and information about Spring State!

Spanish Club will be bowling after school Friday, March 25th. Get your permission slip today!

JV Girls Soccer! The game bus will leave at 3:30 from Parker Street.
