Lunch visits do not require a pass. All scheduled times do need a pass from Guidance or from Mrs. Povse.
African-American seniors: The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is offering scholarships for those who are pursuing enrollment in an accredited college or university for fall. Applications are available from Mrs. Povse and must be postmarked by April 15.
African American Seniors: The Illinois Legislative Black Caucus Foundation scholarship is now available. Deadline is May 1.
HBCU Campus Tour Springfield Urban League is sponsoring a bus trip to the Historically Black Colleges and Universities during spring break, April 17-22nd. Cost is $450. For additional information or to sign up contact Candace Silas at 544-0548 Ext. 240
Senior men going to University of Illinois, Urbana: The Psi Upsilon Scholarship for men who exhibit the highest moral, intellectual and social excellence is now available. $2000, $750, and $250 awards. Upload the application at www.illinipsiu.com before Sept. 19.
SENIORS: The Will to Win scholarship for seniors with ASTHMA, a 3.5 on 4. 0 GPA and who demonstrate outstanding performance and achievement in one of the following categories: performing arts, visual arts, community service, athletics or science is now available. $5000. Deadline is April 30.
SENIORS: Over the Moon Productions is announcing its 2011 Brilliance Award Scholarship of $1000 for students who plan to pursue a course of study in an aspect of theatrical arts (performance, design or technical). Deadline is May 6.
Senior men going to UIUC or SIU-E: The Balanced Man scholarship from the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity is available. UIUC deadline is Apr. 18, SIU-E deadline is July 15.
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is hosting a prospective student reception Monday, April 11 at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel and Conference Center (7th & Adams). Detailed information on academic programs, financial aid, housing, honors program, etc. will be given. Registration begins at 6:30 with the program from 7-8:30. SENIORS GOING TO LINCOLN LAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Advising appointments for summer and fall classes begin Monday, April 11. Get a schedule from Mrs. Povse or check the bulletin boards outside the Guidance Office.
If you need to take the placement test for LLCC, spring break is a good time to do that. The placement test, if you have to take it, must be done before you can register for classes.
ATTENTION ALL SHS STUDENTS and STAFF: Be a Senator has a great opportunity for raising money for Springfield High. For every yellow cap we collect from PEPSI products, we receive 5 CENTS. We need your help. Please place all YELLOW CAPS in the white Pepsi barrels in the commons. We will be collecting the caps until April 30. Thanks for your help!
Spanish Club members: The Foreign Language Dodgeball Tournament will take place on Tuesday, April 12 from 5:45-8. Sign-ups for the 20-member team of 10 upperclassmen and 10 underclassmen will begin today in Room 263. Please bring a $2 refundable deposit to secure your spot. Don't miss out on your chance to represent Spanish Club!
Today is the LAST day for Spanish Club members to sign up for Sunday’s free lunch at Xochmilco.
Cheerleading try-out packets are now available in the main office. See Coach Povse in room 160 with any questions. Clinics are May 2nd and 3rd with tryouts May 4th.
Slushies will be sold over the lunch hour today. Proceeds will help fund the Scholastic Bowl team's trip to Nationals in May.
Attention Juniors! The Class of 2012 is having a second order of sweatshirts and sweatpants. Anyone who is interested see Abhinav or Emma Trapp. Bring money with your order! All money is due TODAY, no exceptions! If turning in money TODAY, see Sadie Shourd or Zanib Jasim.
Seniors, please remember to have your parent sign your permission form for April 27 and 28. Remember, you have three choices: College visit, job shadowing, or community service. The form must be returned by April 26 in order for your absence to be marked excused. Verification of your activity choices must be received by May 2.
Prom Dress give away!! These dresses have been made available through the JCPenney “Wear It, Rock It, Give It” program and other generous donors. Dresses will be given away on a first-come first-serve basis at the YMCA located at 4th & Cook at Healthy Kids Day on Friday, April 15 from 5:30 – 8:30 PM. Any Senior who was absent during homeroom on Wednesday can vote for Prom Court in Mrs. Pence’s room, room 210, by NOON TODAY! We will announce Court by the end of the day.
The Girls Varsity Soccer team improved to 8 – 1 with a 2 – 0 victory over Danville. Alex Carney and Olivia Rosen scored for the Senators. Amy Allison and Amanda Milburn recorded the shut-out. The JV team improved to 4 – 1 with a 3 – 0 victory. Emily Willard, Taylor Arvidson, and Raya Seidman each had a goal. Katie Stuva was in goal for the shut-out.
