A representative from the NAVY will be in the commons at lunch today.
An Air Force rep will be at lunch in the commons on May 11.
The Springfield Urban League Scholarship is now available from Mrs. Povse. You must show proof of acceptance at an accredited college or university, write an essay on the topic "How has community involvement motivated you toward scholastic achievement?" and be available for an interview on June 1 or 2.
Are you interested in owning or managing your own business one day? District 186 and UIS have teamed up to hold a Saturday academy starting May 7th for all high school students of Springfield Public Schools. Each session will run 9 – 11:30 AM May 7th, 14th, 21st. Applications are due May 2nd. Please see the Guidance office for an application and more information.
Hey SHS-if you're looking for a volunteer opportunity, Lindsay Elementary School has an opportunity for you. The school is hosting a carnival on Saturday May 14th from 11:45-3:15. This opportunity would be great for current sophomores interested in applying for NHS next year. See Mrs. Ruedin, room 360, to sign up.
JUNIORS & SENIORS: The Memorial Medical Center is offering a summer program for teens interested in health careers. This program assigns students to current hospital volunteers in various placements in a service learning format. 20 students are selected. If you are interested in an application see Mrs. Povse.
FOR STUDENTS WHO WILL BE SOPHOMORES OR JUNIORS NEXT FALL: Washington University, St. Louis is holding a "Road to College" program 2 times this summer, June 9 or July 26. The free conference will help you get started on the path to great college planning. See Mrs. Povse for details.
GIRLS INTERESTED IN THE SANGAMON COUNTY FAIR QUEEN PAGEANT: if you want additional details on how to enter the queen pageant and possibly earn a $1500 scholarship, see Mrs. Povse.
FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Monday from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch, before school, or after school in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm TODAY. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Please donate. Mrs. Fisher, in the Main Office, is LIVING Proof that blood donations SAVE LIVES! She received 3 units of blood through two life-saving transfusions! Any questions-please see Mr. Williams.
Any Boys soccer player that has not turned in a uniform needs to do so immediately to Mr. Dorr.
Freshman class t-shirts and sweats can be picked up before and after school in room 169.
Due to testing, there will be no JSA this week but JSA’s benefit concert is April 29th from 6 to 10 PM at Douglas Park. Come to hear local bands like ‘Don’t Mess with Winkie’ and performers like Andrea Heath, Darian Fernandes, and Mr. Carson. Tickets are only $5. See a JSA member to buy them.
Today is the last day to drop off your yellow PEPSI caps to Springfield High by this Friday in the white barrels in the commons. This is a great way to earn money for our school.
People interested in being on next year’s Yearbook staff, please pick up an application from Mrs. Barkmeier in room 370. Deadline is Friday, May 8.
Attention SHS students and staff: Check out the new Be A Senator shirt designs! t-shirts, hoodies, & sweatshirts can be ordered in red, black, white or pink. Order forms will be handed out in homeroom on May 4th, downloaded from the SHS website, or may be picked up in the attendance office. Orders and payment are due NO LATER than May 11th to Ms. Greco in room 106. Shirts will be delivered before exams.
Prom tickets will be sold starting Monday, May 2nd during both lunch shifts in the commons. They will be sold everyday until May 13th. Tickets are $35 for a couple and $25 for a single. If you do not purchase your ticket in advance, you may only buy a singles ticket at the door for $30. Cash or checks made payable to SHS.
Sophomores who are interested in receiving information on how to become a National Honor Society member your junior or senior year, please attend a meeting on Monday, May 2, in room 360.
Springfield Band Parent Association will be sponsoring another Extreme Bowling night at Strike n Spare West on Friday, May 5th from 9:00 pm-11:00 pm. Cost is $15 for unlimited bowling for 2 hours and it does include shoes. T-shirts will be given away to the first 25 students. Gather your team and come join the fun!
