An Air Force rep will be at lunch in the commons on May 11.

The Springfield Urban League Scholarship is now available from Mrs. Povse. You must show proof of acceptance at an accredited college or university, write an essay on the topic "How has community involvement motivated you toward scholastic achievement?" and be available for an interview on June 1 or 2.

Are you interested in owning or managing your own business one day? District 186 and UIS have teamed up to hold a Saturday academy starting May 7th for all high school students of Springfield Public Schools. Each session will run 9 – 11:30 AM May 7th, 14th, 21st. Applications are due May 2nd. Please see the Guidance office for an application and more information.

Hey SHS-if you're looking for a volunteer opportunity, Lindsay Elementary School has an opportunity for you. The school is hosting a carnival on Saturday May 14th from 11:45-3:15. This opportunity would be great for current sophomores interested in applying for NHS next year. See Mrs. Ruedin, room 360, to sign up.

JUNIORS & SENIORS: The Memorial Medical Center is offering a summer program for teens interested in health careers. This program assigns students to current hospital volunteers in various placements in a service learning format. 20 students are selected. If you are interested in an application see Mrs. Povse.

FOR STUDENTS WHO WILL BE SOPHOMORES OR JUNIORS NEXT FALL: Washington University, St. Louis is holding a "Road to College" program 2 times this summer, June 9 or July 26. The free conference will help you get started on the path to great college planning. See Mrs. Povse for details.

People interested in being on next year’s Yearbook staff, please pick up an application from Mrs. Barkmeier in room 370. Deadline is Friday.

Attention SHS students and staff: Check out the new Be A Senator shirt designs! t-shirts, hoodies, & sweatshirts can be ordered in red, black, white or pink. Order forms will be handed out in homeroom tomorrow, downloaded from the SHS website, or may be picked up in the attendance office. Orders and payment are due NO LATER than May 11th to Ms. Greco in room 106. Shirts will be delivered before exams.

Prom tickets will be sold during both lunch shifts in the commons. Tickets are $35 for a couple and $25 for a single. If you do not purchase your ticket in advance, you may only buy a singles ticket at the door for $30. Cash or checks made payable to SHS.

Springfield Band Parent Association will be sponsoring another Extreme Bowling night at Strike n Spare West on Friday from 9:00 pm-11:00 pm. Cost is $15 for unlimited bowling for 2 hours and it does include shoes. T-shirts will be given away to the first 25 students. Gather your team and come join the fun!

If you're looking for a volunteer opportunity, Owen Marsh Elementary School is looking for students to do face painting at their end of year festivities to be held the afternoon of June 5. See Mrs. Devlin in room 112 before school to sign up.

Students interested in auditioning for one of the three choirs at SHS for next year need to sign up for an audition time ASAP. Auditions will be held next week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday after school from 3:30 till 6 PM. Audition sigh up sheets are on the outside of the choir room door. Be a part of this dynamic organization!

The choir Department will be having their spring concert Thursday evening at 7 PM in the SHS auditorium. There is no charge for the concert.

Hey Hey JSA! We are having a meeting this Wednesday. Come for food and fun and bring your friends! Also, thank you very much to all the people who performed in or came to our benefit concert!

German Club is showing the movie “In July” in room 250 after school on Thursday, May 5th. Please see a German teacher for the parent-permission slip. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Hope to see you there!

Congratulations to Morgan Williams as she competed in the Poetry Out Loud National Competition last week. There were over 363,000 students that started in the nation-wide competition. Morgan competed against the other state champions and was selected as one of the top 9 competitors for the final round. She then fell short of making it to the final 3 competitors. As a result, Morgan won $1000 for our school library as the state champion and a national finalist, and an additional $1000 for college. Congratulations again to Morgan Williams.

All Freshmen! All Sophomores! All Juniors! Elections for Student Council & Class Officers will be Tuesday, May 17th. Speeches will be held in the morning and the elections will be held at lunch. To be eligible to run for Student Council or Class Officer you MUST ATTEND a meeting on Friday, May 6th outside the auditorium BEFORE school, during BOTH lunch shifts, or AFTER school. This is a MANDATORY meeting to pick up packets and get questions answered. If you have any questions, please see Miss Maloney.
