Good morning Springfield High! Today is Monday, January 23 where successful Senators are respectful of self, others, and property! Thank you for Being A Senator!

Junior and Senior vocationally oriented students: A trip to tour the new Workforce Development Center at Lincoln Land Community College is planned for Feb. 7 in the morning. This new facility houses state of the art Culinary, Collision Repair, Auto Technology, HVAC and welding, Construction Trades, Mechatronics, Renewable Energies and truck driver training. If you are interested in any of these programs get a permission slip from Mrs. Povse, Mrs. Hays or in Guidance. The first 40 students who return slips and are academically eligible will get to go. Slips are due Jan. 31.

Applications for the Lincoln Land Community College foundation scholarship are now available. The LLCC honors college application is also available for students who have a minimum ACT score of 25. These are due April 2. The deadline for the Focus on Your Future Scholarship for LLCC, Robert Morris, UIS or Benedictine has been extended to Feb. 10.

On Wednesday, Jan 25 10th grade students with their guardians are welcome to attend a Pre Registration workshop in the SHS Commons at 6pm. The topics discussed will include CACC, course selection and sequencing, college readiness, and NCAA recruitment.

FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center Tomorrow from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch, before school, or after school in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm today. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Please donate. Mrs. Fisher, in the Main Office, is LIVING Proof that blood donations SAVE LIVES! She received 3 units of blood through two life-saving transfusions! Any questions-please see Mr. Williams.
Auditions for the SHS Spring Musical, “Thoroughly Modern Millie” will be held after school today in the SHS Auditorium. See Mrs. Elmore with questions.

Need help in chemistry, or especially physics? A.P. physics students are available every Monday after school to offer tutoring. Go to Mrs. Brown’s room, 527, and bring a specific assignment to work on. They’ll be there until about 4:15 every MONDAY.

Attention Sophomores! LAST CALL to turn in your order forms for the class t-shirts, hoodies, and sweatpants. Payment is due with the order form. If you need an order form, stop by Room 262 or 252 TODAY!. Forms and payment must be turned in to Room 262 or 252 by Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. Don't miss out on your chance to have a 2014 t-shirt.

There will be a "Do Something" Club Meeting today at 7pm in room 150. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Williams.

It is that time of year to start thinking about your Valentine. Carnations will be sold during both lunch shifts in the commons beginning Monday, January 23. Cost is $1. Flowers will be delivered February 10.

ATTENTION CLASS OF 2013: Our gear has arrived! Please come to room 352, Ms. Davis’ room, after school today to pick up your orders! If you ordered a shirt with your names on it, those are not in yet. HOWEVER, you may pick up the rest of your order. Again, that is after school today in room 352, Ms. Davis’ room. 1 - 3 WHOOT WHOOT!

Attention German Club! We will be showing the movie “Bandits” in room 250 after school on Wednesday, January 25th. Please get a parent permission form from your German teacher. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Hope to see you there.

Attention Spanish Club members: A meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25 in the Commons. We'll be playing Bingo and discussing upcoming events. Come on down for food, drinks, and fun!

Spanish Club bowling is this Friday after school at Strike n' Spare West. See a Spanish teacher for a permission form. The form with a $2 refundable deposit is due by Thursday.

Congratulations speech and acting team on a great tournament at Belleville West this Saturday. Our team placed 6th out of 14 schools with many students in the final round. Remember, there is a team meeting for all team members right after school.

Yesterday afternoon, Cross-country runners - Kirby Hale, Sam Cross, and Nathan Hoffman were honored at the SJ-R/Road Runners club banquet. Kirby Hale voted outstanding Female Runner of the Year and earned the Cross-country team $500. Sam Cross earned a 2nd place voting for Male Runner of the Year for $300, and Nathan Hoffman for 3rd place voting selection for Male Runner of the Year for $200. All three of these SHS Cross Country Athletes earned $1,000 for the SHS Cross Country. Outstanding job!
