Good morning Springfield High! Today is Monday, November 26, 2012 where successful Senators follow the classroom and school wide expectations and allow for learning by all throughout the building.

Juniors and undecided seniors: Western Illinois University has outstanding programs in sports broadcasting, construction management, forensic chemistry, emergency management, law enforcement and justice administration, meteorology, musical theater and supply chain management. If you are interested in these programs get a permission slip in Guidance or from Mrs. Povse for the WIU trip on December 6. Permission slips are due today.

REMINDER TO STUDENTS AND PARENTS: The first Financial Aid presentation of the year will be held next Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 6:30 in the Commons. Caitlin McLaughlin from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will be our presenter.

SENIORS: The following online scholarship applications are now available on the scholarship database: Burger King, AXA Achievement and AXA Achievement Community Scholarship, Greenhouse Scholars.

The 2nd annual Holiday Spirit Wear sale will be Saturday, December 8th from 9:00-noon in the annex at SHS. The latest spirit wear styles and novelties will be available to purchase along with discounted spirit wear from previous years. Free gift wrapping will also be offered. Come on out and support the SHS Booster Club while getting that holiday shopping done. See you there!!

Showchoir is selling Texas Roadhouse Gift cards until tomorrow in increments of $15 $25 or $50. Money will be due at the time of ordering, and you will get the cards in the 1st week of December. Please make checks payable to SHS-showchoir. 10% of total sales will be donated to the showchoir.

Showchoir is looking for more performers (GUYS and girls) to join the showchoir in time for competition season. We meet on Monday and Thursday nights from 6-8pm in the choir room. This year the showchoir will be competing against other top showchoirs in the State as well as the Midwest. If you are wanting to become a famous, actor, singer/dancer or even a music arranger this is where it start! If you are interested in joining the group or would like more information, please come to their next rehearsal on Monday November 26th and meet the director. Fun fact: Ashton Kutcher, Blake Lively, Ty Diggs, Lance Bass (of N*sync), Jason Mraz, Heather Headley, Gavin Creel, Anne Hathaway, Kirstin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, and P!NK have ALL been in a showchoir at their high schools.
Rehearsal for all SHS Idol contestants will be Tuesday after school so that you can have the opportunity to practice with the sound system.

Hey everyone, Tuesday night is the annual SHS Idol talent show. The show starts at 7 PM in the SHS auditorium and tickets are $5 per person. And as an audience member, you have the opportunity to help pick one of the winners! Don't miss this exciting evening!!!

Attention students & teachers: The SHS Do Something Club is hosting a Toy Drive for needy kids. SHS families in need will get first dibs at picking a toy, and remaining toys will be donated to Contact Ministries. No need to wrap the gift. Just choose & label the gift as boy or girl, and the age from zero to 15 years old. No Weapons or Violent Toys Accepted. Deadline to drop off a gift in the Main Office & Guidance Office is Tues, Dec 11.

The Lady Senator basketball team won the Galesburg Thanksgiving Tourney by beating Rock Island Alleman 64 to 47. SHS was led in scoring by Anika Webster with 26 points, Meghan Fetter with 11 and Kierra Weir added 10. Next up for SHS is a game tomorrow night at Southeast.

The Junior class will be selling Papa John's Breadsticks this Thursday! Three breadsticks and sauce will be sold for a low price of $2.00. We have upped our order due to high demand so don't miss out!

All speech and acting team members-there is a team meeting directly after school in Ms. Negele’s room. It is important you be there. Thank you to all who supported the team with your Cinnabon purchases.

Attention German Club! We will be showing the movie “Lautlos” in room 250 after school on Wednesday, November 28. Snacks and drinks will be provided. Please ask a German teacher for a permission form. Hope to see you there!

Yearbook supplements for the 2011/2012 year can be picked up during lunch shifts today and tomorrow in the commons and in room 370 after school.
