Good morning Springfield High! Today is Friday, January 18, 2013 where successful Senators are respectful of self, others, and property! Thank you for Being A Senator!

SENIORS: The following scholarships are now available from Mrs. Povse: Illinois Lumber and Material Dealers Association, William E. McElroy Charitable Trust for males going into medical field, and the Helen and June Hamilton Teacher's Scholarship.

JUNIORS AND SENIORS: Permission slips for the college bus trip to Illinois State University, Normal are now available from Mrs. Povse or in the Guidance Office. The trip is February 26 and permission slips are due Feb. 13th.

Attention: All Graduates who have had their Senior portrait taken at Grussenmeyer/Class Acts! Check the poster board outside the Main Office. If you had your photo taken BUT it is NOT on the poster board, please call the number on it by January 21!

Buick Achievers Scholarship for students studying engineering, technology design or business, with an interest in automotive industry.

The list of students going on the Eastern Illinois University field trip on Jan. 31 is posted outside of Mrs. Povse's office. If there are any students on the list who have changed their mind about going please let Mrs. Povse know as there are 7 students on a wait list.

SENIORS: Mrs. Povse is beginning to post the scholarship dollars you have been offered. If you have been offered scholarship dollars at any school, please let her know. It does not have to be at the school you intend to attend. ANY offer you get she wants to know about. Also let her know where you have been accepted to. Just leave a note in the mailbox on her door.

Underclassmen Football players! Numbers & JV letters are in, stop by the Main office and pick your set up.

Do you want to participate in the Sister Cities student exchange program to Ashikaga, Japan? Then come to an information session January 30 or February 13 at 7:00 PM at Christ the King Parish Center.

Mike Mullin, the author of Ashfall and Ashen Winter, will visit Springfield High on Jan. 28. There will be a book signing. Prices are $8.75 for Ashfall in paperback or $13.50 in hardback. Ashen Winter is $14.50. See Mrs. Dahmane if you wish to purchase copies in advance. Exact change is appreciated.

Tickets for Boys City Basketball Tourney are on sale in the Main office until 1 PM today. Advance Tickets are $5. Door Tickets are $6.

Calling all SHS Cats …Springfield High’s 2013 spring musical will be the area’s first high school staging of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s award-winning “CATS”. Audition music is available in the SHS Choir Room by talking to Mr. Kaplan.
You only need to come to one dance and one vocal audition on Tuesday, January 22 and callbacks will be on Wednesday, January 23. Please see Mr. Kaplan, the SHS Website or the flyers posted on the auditorium doors for times and details. We look forward to seeing MANY SHS CATS at auditions!

Class of 2016: Apparel orders are in! Stop by Mr. Kramer in Room 326 today at the start of lunch or after school. We have extras so if you are interested in buying more or you missed the first order come speak with Mr. Kramer.

Hey all students interested in FUN. Young Life is hosting an ALL NIGHT LOCK-OUT on Friday night, January 25th.Please go to Room 226 and get the sign-up forms from Mrs. Slater. Forms and money must be turned in by next WEDNESDAY, January 23. IT WILL BE A BLAST

Please join us for the 1st Annual Springfield High School Showchoir Send-Off which will feature our own SHS showchoir and the showchoirs of Southeast High school, Glenwood High school, Franklin Middle school and Grant Middle school on Wednesday, January 30th at 6pm in the Auditorium. Donations will be accepted for Admission at a suggested amount of $3 per person or $5 per family. There will be raffles, snacks, and great performances from some of the best Springfield Area Junior High and High School Showchoirs.
Current NHS students, the next mandatory meeting is January 24, after school in the library, OR during A or B lunch in room 360. Expect to spend at least 20 minutes at the meeting to evaluate your hours. You may bring your lunch to the meeting.

The Lady Senators jumped out to a quick lead and won their 20th game of the year by beating Chatham 49 to 31. SHS was led in scoring by Ashton Williams with 21 points. Next Tuesday, SHS starts the City Tournament against Lanphier at 7:30.

Students who drive to school! The sewer work on New Street is now complete. Security will be checking the school lot Tuesday and stickering unauthorized cars. A parking lottery sign up will be available today in the Main office and in the commons during lunch.

The SPIRIT of GIVING is an important part of the City Tournament and this year we are teaming up with Southeast High School against Lanphier and SHG. We are asking that each of you bring canned goods to school or to the Convention Center. The team with the biggest volume of canned goods will win the Spirit of Giving award for this year. We are also collecting money to purchase food towards this goal. Please drop your change into our container by the Student Council candy store and in the Main office. We will use this money to purchase food for our volume. Please give all that you can as the total amount non-perishable canned goods will be donated to St Martin de Porres for distributing. Students, please remember that the Boys Basketball City Tournament is a school function and all behavior guidelines will be enforced at all times during the City Tournament. Any inappropriate behavior displayed at the City Tournament will result in consequences that will be enforced by the administration of Springfield High. This included behavior inside the Convention Center, as well as adjacent to the facility.

In addition, we want to remind everyone that students are expected to wear clothing that does not include lewd, obscene, or vulgar language or representation of anything illegal. Large chains or wallet chains are not allowed. Caps may be worn but the bill must be facing forward.

No seating is allowed in the balcony.

Please remember that the Springfield Police Department will be wanding all spectators as they enter the Convention Center.

Students are prohibited from standing on the seats at any and all times. Students may be asked to leave the premises if they indicate an unwillingness to cooperate with security personnel. Anyone asked to leave may not return for any future games this weekend.

The second game will conclude at approximately 9:15 PM. Please make sure your ride, if needed, will pick you up at that time.

Most importantly, we hope you and your friends have fun and enjoy the City Tournament this weekend. The Tournament should prove to be very exciting, safe, and enjoyable for fans of all ages!
