The following scholarships are now posted on the database or are available from Mrs. Povse:
SEA teacher scholarship, Order of AHEPA for Greek students, SLICE scholarship for low-income families, Sigma Phi Epsilon for males going to U of I-Urbana, DCCW for Catholic female leaders, the Plato and Flora McCourtney Foundation renewable scholarship for students majoring in scientific or technical fields.
Permission slips for the ISU trip are due Feb. 13, however, the bus is filling fast! Juniors who were given permission slips for the LLCC trip and tour of workforce building should get those in to Mrs. Povse or Ms. Guerrero ASAP.
Don't forget to order your Valentine a Carnation. Cost is only $1 and sales will be in the commons before school and during lunch. Next Wednesday, Feb 13 will be the last day you will be able to pre order a flower.

Congratulations to the Springfield High Speech & Acting Team along with head coach Lydia Negele, for placing 2nd at Regionals in Chatham this past weekend. Congratulations to Annie Gates for being tournament champion in Oratory and Onsi Kamel for being tournament champion in Informative Speaking. Eight students will be competing in eleven events at Sectionals Saturday in Charleston. Way to go team.
Juniors! Student board member applications for the 2013/2014 school year are available in the Main office. A student must meet the following requirements to apply for the position of Student Board Member:
• Be an incoming high school senior for the 2013-14 school year
• Have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher
• Submit a one-page biographical sketch (double-spaced) outlining the student’s abilities, goals, and reasons why he/she is the best good choice as a Student Board Member
• Provide two written references from teachers, school administrators, or community members
• Provide contact information, including phone number and/or e-mail address.
Deadline for submission of materials is Friday, March 22, 2013.As in the past, students will return their application to their principal.
