JUNIORS and undecided SENIORS: Get signed up to hear the representatives from the following colleges:

SENIORS: Check the scholarship database for the following new scholarships: Springfield Road Runners, Springfield Civic Garden Club and the Springfield Urban League.

SENIORS APPLYING FOR THE MCCOURTNEY SCHOLARSHIP: Please turn in your application and essay to Mrs. Povse no later than Wednesday, March 27 so we can complete our section and make the transcripts. The applications will be mailed together and insured.
The Lincolnland Illini Club "Why U of I" essay contest/scholarship is now available.$1000, 200 words. Applications due May 17. See Mrs. Povse for application.

Scholarship for JUNIORS: Juniors who have at least a 2.7 GPA on a 4 point scale, who volunteer in the community, and who plan to attend an accredited college or university can apply for the Nordstrom Cares scholarship. Go to Nordstrom.com/scholarship and apply. Deadline is May 1.

SENIORS : Mrs. Povse is taking a group of seniors to LLCC on Wed., March 27 from noon-2:00. The purpose of this visit is to familiarize potential students with Menard Hall, home to admissions, advising, placement testing and financial aid and to tour the Workforce Building which houses all the vocational/technical programs. Whether you plan to go to LLCC to get a certificate, an Associates degree or to learn a skill this would be a good trip for you. Permission slips are on her door. Permission slips are due today!!!!!

Permission slips for the SIU-E trip on April 11 are due to Mrs. Povse tomorrow - Thursday, March 28.

AP Tests AP Tests will be given of May 6-17. There is an $89 fee per test for the exams (made payable to Springfield High). If the student qualifies for free and/or reduced lunch, see Mr. Crum about partial fee waivers. To register, students need to come to the Guidance Office with the check/cash and sign up. The Springfield High deadline is FRIDAY for registering. More information is available at http://www.collegeboard.org/ and look under the AP section.

The "All Academy Night" for students and parents interested in the military academies (U.S. Air Force Academy, Merchant Marine, West Point, Naval or Coast Guard) will be held on April 23 at 7:00p.m. at Building P-48, Illinois Air National Guard base, Capital Airport. Reservations are required. E-mail brian.hodge1@ang.af.mil or call 757-1374 no later than April 16.

Attention 2013 graduates: Josten's will be in the Commons during lunch on Wednesday, March 27th to pass out your graduation orders.

FREE T-SHIRTS FOR BLOOD DONORS!! Staff & Students 16 or older can donate blood to the Central Illinois Community Blood Center on Tue., March 26, from 8:30am-2:30pm. Students aged 16 must have a signed parental consent form. You must sign up during lunch, before school, or after school in the Guidance Office by 3:30 pm on Monday, March 25. Teachers & Staff do not need to sign up, you can report to the auditorium at your convenience. Please donate. Mrs. Fisher, in the Main Office, is LIVING Proof that blood donations SAVE LIVES! She received 3 units of blood through two life-saving transfusions! Any questions-please see Mr. Williams.

If you are interested in umpiring little league baseball games this summer, Kids First Sports organization is hiring. You can pick up an application in the guidance office or from Mrs. Devlin.

The Scholastic Book Fair is this week. Come up to the library and check it out or shop online. All profits go to the English Dept. to support classroom libraries.

The Junior class will be selling Papa John's Breadsticks today! Three breadsticks and sauce will be sold for only $2.00. Don't miss out!

The Sister Cities Association of Springfield is sponsoring its 19th annual high school student delegation to Ashikaga, Japan June 7 to 17, 2013. As Sister Cities delegates, students will be official guests of our sister city, Ashikaga, stay in host families’ homes, meet with counterpart students and officials, and participate in a range of sightseeing and cultural experiences. Participating students can earn college credit through Lincoln Land Community College for a nominal fee. The application deadline is March 31, 2013. Applications are available in the main office and on the SCAS Facebook page. For more info, see Mrs. J. Williams (SHS permanent sub).

Prom is just around the corner and the SHS Jazz bands want to invite everyone to come out Friday 3/22 for Swing into Spring. Event Friday 3/22, will be at the SHS Commons and begins 6:30 with dance lessons with Pay Lyttaker. Then you can practice your dance moves as we showcase the SHS Jazz bands along with the Middle School Jazz bands. Free admission -Wow!! Concessions will be available. We hope to see everyone there! Sponsored by SHS Band Parents Association.
